‘Lead by Example’ – Rebekah Allick Sends Powerful Message to Returning Nebraska Volleyball Players After Emotional College Farewell

Following Rebekah Allick’s final season at Nebraska Volleyball, the middle blocker shared words of encouragement for her returning teammates.

Nebraska Volleyball’s perfect season came to a sudden end following a heavy defeat at the hands of the Texas Aggies. Following the conclusion of the game, Rebekah Allick, who was in her final season, had some uplifting words to say to the other players who will return next season.

The Huskers took on the No. 3-seeded team and were defeated 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 35-37, 15-13) in a five-set thriller. This effectively terminates the Cornhuskers’ goal of winning the National Championships; meanwhile, the Aggies will proceed to the semifinals.

What Did Rebekah Allick Say to Returning Nebraska Volleyball Players?

Senior middle blocker Rebekah Allick has just concluded her final season at Nebraska Volleyball after playing her last match as a Husker against the Aggies. Despite the whimpering end to her collegiate career, Allick had some emotional words of encouragement to her teammates who will return next season.

“I guess, to the returners, my biggest thing is, lead by example,” she said.

Allick further expressed respect for former Cornhusker Lexi Rodriguez, who led by example and encouraged her teammates during difficult moments.

“The biggest thing is like- I’ve always respected- and Lexi Rodriguez to me was that person. I just felt like, she maybe didn’t always have something to say, but she always made the play or maybe even if it was like the random hand hold or the hug and that would probably be it for the rest of the day. But you, know, it was very intentional,” she said.

Allick further urged her returning teammates to never let their fellow players bear the burden of playing well alone. Instead, she encouraged them to do their “thing” on the court by being themselves and putting it all out there at every given opportunity.

Notably, Rodriguez was one of the most recognized players during her time with the Huskers. She was named a three-time first-team All-American and one-time Big Ten Libero of the Year. After her time at Nebraska Volleyball came to an end, she signed with LOVB Omaha ahead of LOVB Pro’s inaugural season.

When Nebraska Volleyball’s Rebekah Allick Reflected on Struggling to Move Forward

A few weeks before Nebraska Volleyball’s defeat at the hands of the Aggies, Allick opened up about her struggles with moving forward. She revealed that although she knows she shouldn’t dwell on the past, she sometimes can’t help it.

“I struggle a lot with looking behind me with everything that’s happened, good or bad,” Allick said earlier this week. I just try not to look behind me, but sometimes there’s a lot of fruit that comes from that…,” she said.

Allick also noted that she tries not to dwell on the negatives, but on the positives. As such, looking back at everything the Huskers have accomplished this season, she can’t help but be filled with pride.
