Quincy Wilson Opens Up About Impressive Performance At VA Showcase
Wilson competed at the 2026 VA Showcase, a premier high school indoor track and field meet hosted by Team Virginia Bickle at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. He dominated in the 500m event, recording a time of 1:00.56 to finish in first place and set the second-fastest high school time in the event ever, just 0.07 seconds shy of Andrew Salvodon’s record.
After the event, Wilson sent a message to fans regarding how he’s feeling in his final high school season:
“You know, it feels great. Hard work is paying off. It’s early in the season, I’m blessed. This is my last one [senior year], super excited, and I’m just excited to be here. I’m thankful for the fans, it was nice and loud, last year they know what happened, I came back. This is my last one so I’m leaving everything on the table, they can expect a lot of greatness.” he said.
As Wilson’s high school journey nears its end, he departs with a legacy firmly in place. His VA Showcase performance catapulted him to No. 11 on the World All-Time List for the 500m, a testament to his extraordinary talent.
Wilson On How He Balances His Sport And Life
Wilson first made his breakthrough at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the youngest male track and field Olympian in U.S. history at age 16. He helped his country earn the gold medal in the men’s 4x400m, running the first leg in the heats. At such a young age, how does he balance his track and field with school?
“It’s not my job right now. I do track for fun, to have fun with my friends. My talent and my hard work have presented me these opportunities to basically go and run at a higher rate, but right now, I’m just having fun. I’m enjoying my friends. I’m laughing at practice. We’re joking through the warmup. We’re serious, but we’re having fun.” he said, as per the Washington Post.
In 2024, Wilson shattered records at the New Balance National Indoor, winning the 400m in a blazing 45.76 seconds–a new national high school indoor mark. He also anchored Bullis’ 4x400m relay to a record-breaking 3:11.87.
