The Nittany Lions competed for the final duel of the regular season against the Princeton Tigers on the occasion of Senior Day. They had won their previous 14 duels without a sweat and, with the lone exception of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, not even a single team managed to give the current NCAA champions an iota of resistance.
The duel began with the most unexpected result: a disqualification. Luke Lilledahl came for a victory, but he frustrated his opponent, Marc-Anthony McGowan, so much that he went on the offensive, which violated the combat rules, and he was ultimately disqualified.
This was followed up by Blaze’s dominant victory over Ethan Rivera, who was decimated by a score of 3-11. However, the most impressive victories came from wrestlers Mitchell Mesenbrink, Levi Haines, and Josh Barr, who won their bouts by simply pinning down their opponents. Barr took the least time, defeating his opponents in less than two minutes!
PJ Duke defeated Gavin Hawk via technical fall, and Mesenbrink completely pinned his opponent midway through the match to win via fall. Rocco Welsh also maintained his supremacy over Xavier Giles by a huge score of 21-6 [via technical fall], while Levi Haines took slightly more time than Mesenbrink to pin down his opponent by similar tactics in the men’s 174 lbs. category.
