US Hockey Star Megan Keller Breaks Silence on Donald Trump’s Comments That Caused Controversy After Winter Olympics Gold

USA hockey star Megan Keller finally reacted to Donald Trump's controversial joke about the women's Olympic gold medal team.

The 2026 Winter Olympics dazzled fans with unforgettable moments, none brighter than Megan Keller and the USA Women’s Hockey team. As a standout defenseman and captain of the Boston Fleet in the PWHL, Keller led Team USA with determination and skill. Her leadership powered the squad to a flawless 7-0 run, culminating in a thrilling gold medal victory over Canada.

Following their gold medal-winning campaign in Milan, U.S President Donald Trump joked about inviting the women’s team to the State of the Union, saying he would face impeachment if he didn’t, during a congratulatory call to the U.S men’s hockey team, which also won gold in Milan.

Megan Keller’s Reaction To Trump’s Comments

Several players from the USA Women’s Hockey team voiced their opinions on Trump’s remarks. Captain Hilary Knight described the joke as “distasteful,” saying it took the spotlight away from their hard-earned victory.

Keller was the latest to be asked about the subject, and said during an interview, as per Tom Carroll:

“I don’t really have a response. It’s unfortunate the conversation surrounding it, where it’s gone throughout social media. But all I can say is, I’ve never been more proud to pull on the USA jersey. And I think for a lot of us, it’s the honor of a lifetime to represent our country on the biggest stage. And we went over there with one thing in mind, to bring home the Gold Medal for our country, and pretty incredible that we got to do it – both men’s and women’s, that’s the first time that we’ve ever done that. So I think that’s what should be highlighted.”

Keller’s Performance In Milan

Keller delivered a standout performance at the Winter Olympics, racking up nine points with three goals and six assists. She found the net against Italy in the quarterfinals and Finland in group play, but her crowning achievement came in the final against Canada, where she clinched the 2-1 overtime win with a golden goal just over four minutes into 3-on-3 play.

She took a stretch pass, deked defender Claire Thompson, and slipped the puck past goalie Ann-RĂ©nee Desbiens. After the game, Keller stated that she was ‘lost for words’ as per Yahoo Sports, adding that they worked extremely hard over the past four years to achieve gold.
