Masie Boesiger Opens About the Secret Mantra That Fueled Her Confidence In the Nebraska Volleyball Team
Boesiger played a pivotal role during her time in Nebraska volleyball team that helped the program to maintain their dominance in the league. The American athlete’s journey had several ups and downs however, her confidence and self-belief continued to be catalysts that helped her to excel while competing under pressure.
The 22-year-old spoke about developing the right mindset during a conversation with her former teammate Lexi Rodriguez on ‘The SheSports’ Podcast. The former Nebraska volleyball player shared that the two had come up with a simple phrase during their college days, using it as a reminder to trust themselves and stay confident in their abilities.
“Lexi and I actually created a phrase actually in college. Something that we just wanted to create to show that we believed in ourselves, and also remind ourselves that we believe in ourselves because we can’t get our belief from our coaches or from a win or a great pass or from anyone in the stands. Confidence has to come from believing in yourself and choosing to believe in yourself. I think coaches can help by instilling it in their athletes and building them up instead of turning them down,” she said.

Boesiger also spoke about how the idea gradually turned into a personal habit during their time at Nebraska. Speaking about how they reminded themselves of the phrase and gradually incorporated it into their daily routine, she remarked,
“So the phrase that we came up with was ‘I Pick Me.’ We got a little piece of fingertape, and we wrote it out. I pick me, and I put a little heart in the end, and I put it around my finger every single game day, home or away and I left a piece of my tape in the locker as a reminder so I can go back and look at that piece of tape.”
The American volleyball player shared that the idea first came from a sports psychologist who helped her work on the mental side of her game. She explained that the guidance played an important role in helping her improve her mindset and approach to competition.
