In the middle of all the speculation, Manning addressed the situation during a press conference. He shared his thoughts on Ferrari’s time with the program and the decision, giving some clarity on how things unfolded.
As questions continued to come up about the decision, Manning took a moment to share his honest thoughts on Ferrari and his time with the program.
“AJ is an awesome kid, you know, if you are not around him a lot, he can be misunderstood, you know, AJ is an entertainer. You know, he is an entertainer, he wrestles with a lot of energy, he performs with a lot of energy and passion for the sport. As the conversation continued, Manning was also asked about Ferrari and how much eligibility he might have left. Manning addressed it directly, pointing to Ferrari’s knee injury and the fact that he is set to undergo surgery soon.
The Nebraska wrestling coach explained that the recovery process will play a big role in what happens next. He also mentioned that Ferrari’s remaining eligibility depends on medical paperwork and approval from doctors.
“We’ll that a kicker, he’s going to have surgery here on his knee, he probably has a year, we have to do paper work on it. He probably has a year if the paper work gets done correctly and doctor signs off on his injuries. I don’t know probably one or two,” he added.

Ferrari is now expected to look for a new program, with reports suggesting he could compete elsewhere next season if things fall into place. His next step largely depends on recovery and finding the right fit.
However, NCAA rules could play a big role. Ferrari may need a waiver to compete again due to his prior transfers, meaning his immediate future will depend on approval and eligibility clearance.
