“Deserve It More Than Anyone” — Lexi Rodriguez Backs Nebraska Volleyball To Win It All As Huskers Charge Into NCAA Regionals

Lexi Rodriguez backs Nebraska Volleyball as they chase National title after punching their ticket to the NCAA Regional Semifinals.

Former Nebraska volleyball player Lexi Rodriguez pinned her hopes on the Huskers winning the NCAA title this year. Despite now playing in League One Volleyball, her heart longs for a national title even more, as she walked that path multiple times but never achieved it.

Rodriguez signed with the LOVB after capping her collegiate career at Nebraska in the 2024-25 season, but never fails to show admiration for her former teammates and coaches, and even attends their games.

Rodriguez, who was a standout libero in Nebraska and capped her career as the school’s all-time career leader in digs with 1,897, sent love to the players, who have been nothing but phenomenal in 2025.

In conversation with Hail Varsity and Hurdaat Sports, the LOVB Omaha player said she wishes the Huskers win it all. She also noted that she has seen the players and coaching staff give their heart in practice and carry that effort onto the court. She said:

“I mean, I have the Huskers winning it all. I’ve been down there a few times, watched their practices and everything, and they just, I mean, that team specifically, like the new players, the new coaching staff, like everything, I just feel like they’re so bought in and have been doing everything the right way. So, I mean, truly, they deserve it more than anyone.”

Rodriguez was part of the team that clocked a dominant win over Dayton in the 2024 NCAA Regional Semifinal. The libero recorded a season-high 22 digs as the Huskers went 3-1. The team then trounced the Wisconsin Badgers in the Regional Finals, but fell to eventual champions, Penn State, in the Final Four.

The heartbreak didn’t only come competition-wise; the team also had to say goodbye to seniors Rodriguez and Merritt Beason, as well as their beloved head coach, John Cook.

Rodriguez Praises Head Coach and the Huskers for Their Depth in 2025

Nebraska Volleyball players have kept fans on the edge of their seats and the scoreboard buzzing with their flair all season long. They won all 17 of their home matches, and 16 were clean sweeps. When they showed their prowess at the Husker Invitational against Grand Canyon in September, it was enough to signal what the rest of the season would look like.

Rodriguez, who watched the game in person, noted that the team has massive depth, and it can easily play anyone, at any level. She also commended head coach Dani Busboom Kelly for instilling confidence in the players and helping them win big.

The 22-year-old won the AAU Sullivan Award this year and was a finalist for the Honda Sport Award for Volleyball. She also added the Nebraska Female Athlete of the Year honor to her resume.
