Jordan Chiles’ Tearful Regional Finals Win Earns Emotional Praise From Her Mother

With the UCLA women’s gymnastics team clinching the NCAA Corvallis Regional Final, gratitude overflowed for their star performer, Jordan Chiles, whose brilliance helped seal the victory. The Bruins edged out Minnesota by just one-tenth of a point, scoring 197.725, while Utah and Alabama followed closely behind with 197.500 and 197.175, making the win even more thrilling.

Chiles dazzled the crowd with a flawless floor routine, earning a perfect 10 as the final performer of the night. Her show-stopping performance not only secured UCLA’s victory but also brought home the program’s first regional title in seven years.

How Jordan Chiles’ Mother Reacted to Her Performance

Tiana Sumanasekera, Sydney Barros, and Katelyn Rosen also shone for the Bruins, delivering pivotal routines on vault and balance beam. Chiles wowed the judges with a perfectly stuck Yurchenko double full on vault, earning a 9.950 and even receiving a perfect 10 from one judge.

A video shared on Instagram captured Chiles’ emotions after she had scored a perfect 10 on floor exercise, helping UCLA win the final. Her mother, Gina Chiles, took to her story to share her thoughts on her daughter’s performance, writing:

“Everything about this!! What a night!! @jordanchiles.”

Chiles could be seen in tears after her incredible performance. The win now means UCLA will advance to the national championships, where they will look to secure the title after finishing second last season.

What Jordan Chiles Said About Her Relationship With Simone Biles

Chiles has competed on the international stage on multiple occasions, including at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where she stepped in for Simone Biles during the women’s team final. Biles had withdrawn from multiple events at those Games due to mental health concerns, with Chiles competing on uneven bars and balance beam to replace her there as well.

In a recent interview, Chiles discussed her relationship with Biles and how that moment brought them closer together: (15:45 onwards)

“It was kind of like a swap in Tokyo. You know, I stepped in for her, and I think that was when I first was like, “Wow, you know, I’m actually being seen. I actually feel something, you know, that confidence came in.” Her being able to support me in this situation and giving me tactics and being like, “Look, I’m here for you. I understand what’s happening. We’re going to do everything we can to make sure, and we’re going to continue to fight.”

“Seeing that, I think having that sisterhood is definitely a huge thing because not everybody gets that,” she stated.

In the conversation, Chiles also discussed how she felt when she lost the bronze medal she initially won at the Paris Olympics. The medal was reallocated to Romania’s Ana Barbosu after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) revoked the medal.
