Jaylen Reyes’ Nebraska Volleyball Contract & Promotion Breakdown: Salary, Bonuses, and His Long-Term Role With the Huskers

Nebraska Volleyball will oversee a major change to their coaching ranks, with assistant coach Jaylen Reyes receiving promotion.

Nebraska Volleyball is poised for a coaching shakeup as Jaylen Reyes steps into a larger role after eight years with the program. Since joining in 2018, he’s been key in developing pin hitters, shaping game plans, scouting opponents, leading recruiting, and overseeing the beach volleyball team.

Reyes joined when Nebraska legend John Cook was in charge, and now works with Dani Busboom Kelly, who just completed her first season as head coach.

All About Nebraska Volleyball Coach Jaylen Reyes’ Promotion

Reyes has been promoted to associate head coach at Nebraska. He signed a new three-year, $630,000 contract, becoming only the third person to hold this title after John Cook (1999) and Tyler Hildebrand (2020-21).

This contract makes Reyes one of the highest-paid assistant coaches in the country. His annual salary will start at $200,000 and increase by $10,000 each year.

He is eligible for bonuses, including 15 percent for winning the Big Ten and an additional 10 to 25 percent based on NCAA tournament performance.

The contract includes a $200,000 buyout if he leaves early, except when accepting a head coaching position.

With Reyes on the staff, Nebraska has been to the NCAA Championship match three times and won Big Ten titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

He also guided libero Lexi Rodriguez to four-time AVCA All-American honors and helped Kenzie Maloney become an All-American libero in 2018.

Dani Busboom Kelly On Reyes’ New Role

Head Coach Dani Busboom Kelly was delighted with Reyes’s promotion. Her first season in charge went remarkably well, despite not clinching the national title.

They won the regular season title with an undefeated record, with many standout performances from stars such as Harper Murray, Andi Jackson, and Rebekah Allick.

As per Sports Illustrated, Busboom Kelly said on Reyes’ contract extension: “Jaylen has been integral to the success of this program for the past eight years, and he continues to show his love for Nebraska.

“Jaylen brings so much joy and energy to our gym every day. His work ethic and passion for everything he does – whether it be coaching, scouting, recruiting, or beach volleyball – are hard to match, and we are so grateful to have him in our program.”

After officially signing his contract, Jaylen Reyes expressed deep gratitude toward head coach Dani Busboom Kelly for trusting him with a role on her first coaching staff. Reyes said the opportunity meant a great deal to him, noting how much he values being part of the program’s foundation under her leadership.

He added that Nebraska feels like home, emphasizing that he genuinely “loves it” there and appreciates the culture, support, and belief shown in him throughout his journey with the Huskers.
