Olympic Champion Jade Carey’s Emotional Reaction Captures a Special New Chapter at Oregon State

Despite ending her gymnastics career with OSU last year, Jade Carey continued to strengthen her bond with the university as they started their 2026 season.

Despite ending her collegiate gymnastics career with Oregon State last year, Jade Carey continued to strengthen her bond with the university as the Beavers began their 2026 season. Carey, who represented the Beavers from 2022 to 2025, earned several accolades during her time there, including the 2025 AAI Award, seven Pac-12 titles, and six NCAA Championship medals, establishing herself as one of the program’s greatest.

Following the 2025 NCAA Championships and the close of her senior season, Carey chose to step back from elite competition, turning her focus to graduation and embracing a new role as a student assistant coach at Oregon State in August 2025.

Jade Carey Motivates Oregon State Gymnasts

Now, Carey brings her experience to the sidelines as a student assistant coach under head coach Tanya Chaplin, teaming up with her father and lifelong mentor Brian Carey, who also coaches the squad. Michael Chaplin and Kaytianna Kell complete the dynamic coaching team.

The Beavers last competed against Sacramento State on January 16, 2026, at the Gill Coliseum, where they recorded their first victory of the season. In a video posted on Instagram, Carey could be seen motivating one of the team’s gymnasts, sharing advice that helped her become one of the best collegiate gymnasts in the country.

Sophia Esposito and Kyanna Crabb stood out on the night, helping the team to victory. Oregon State will now be looking to build upon their win in their next meet against No. 23 Utah State on Sunday, January 25th.

Jordan Chiles Speaks On Her And Carey’s Careers

Jordan Chiles, who competed with Carey at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, recently spoke about how their collegiate careers helped them evolve. In Paris, Carey and Chiles were part of the United States team that won gold, with the pair recording impressive performances. Following the Games, Chiles returned to UCLA for collegiate gymnastics, as did Carey with OSU.

In an interview with People Magazine, Chiles said, “Everybody’s evolving into who they’re trying to become. Especially me and Jade, we got taught that at a younger age because of our sport, but knowing that we get to express and find different things in our normal life that doesn’t have to do with our sport – I think it’s really cool.”

In the conversation, Carey also added that collegiate gymnastics offers much more freedom than elite gymnastics does, allowing her to learn new moves in the gym that she didn’t have time for before.
