Jackson Butler recently announced his college commitment. The junior wrestling sensation will be joining the University of Maryland soon.
Butler was previously committed to a college’s D1 program. Unfortunately, the program was scrapped, and the junior wrestler had to reconsider his priorities.
Jackson Butler Announces Commitment As Jax Forrest & Others React
Butler recently shared an announcement poster about his decision to join the University of Maryland for his collegiate career. The teenage wrestler wrote in the Instagram post,
“After careful consideration, I will continue my wrestling career and pursue my academic education at the University of Maryland. I am grateful to my parents, coaches, and teammates for their invaluable support and guidance in helping me reach this decision. I’m excited to join the Terrapins and contribute to both the program and my academic goals.🐢 #Terps #GodFirst”
Butler’s teammate and Oklahoma State wrestler Jax Forrest, who had been supportive of him throughout the challenging phase, cheered on this decision. He wrote in the comments section,
“So happy and proud of you, bro. This is amazing.”
Forrest further wrote,
“He did it ❤️”

“Go turtles!!!! congratulations brother!!!! Let’s gooooo ❤️”
Bassett, Butler, and Forrest have studied together at Bishop McCort High School. The three wrestlers have made their school proud in national and international wrestling, with Bassett and Forrest having won the Junior World Championships.
Jackson Butler’s Overall Track Record As a Wrestler
Butler had previously announced his commitment to California Baptist University for his collegiate career. Unfortunately, the institution scrapped the wrestling program altogether, and Butler had to reenter the transfer portal. Despite the challenging circumstances, the wrestler was not disappointed.
When the news was announced, Butler simply wrote that this must be a part of ‘God’s plan’. The teenage wrestler wrote in the caption of his Instagram post,
“I just received some news that the D1 program that I was committed to is cutting their program. This came out of no where. I am reopening my commitment and open to talking to all schools. This is hard but has to be a part of God’s Plan. Isaiah 41:10”
Butler competes in the men’s 149 lbs. category. Not much is known about his wrestling record, except that he represented Bishop McCort High School in junior wrestling, including at the state level.
