Iowa Wrestling is all set to face Nebraska Wrestling in the next duel. The Hawkeyes have a current record of 8-3 for the 2025-26 season. Iowa Hawkeyes previously faced the defending NCAA champions, the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Nittany Lions crushed the Hawkeyes in a one-sided contest.
Iowa Wrestling Aims For Strong Comeback Against Nebraska
The fourth-ranked Iowa Wrestling team is aiming to make a strong comeback against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The duel will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 23, at 8 p.m. CST [7:30 a.m. IST, January 24].
However, the journey is easier said than done. One, the Huskers are no novices but were runners-up in the previous edition, which was won again by Cael Sanderson’s Nittany Lions. Two, former NCAA champion AJ Ferrari [who won the bronze medal at the 2025 NCAA Championships] is part of the Big Red team as a 285 lbs. wrestler.

The Hawkeyes finished in fourth place overall with a total of 81 points, behind the Penn State Nittany Lions [177 points], the Nebraska Cornhuskers [117 points], and the Oklahoma State Cowboys [102.5 points]. However, Hawkeyes head coach Tom Brands is hopeful of a turnaround this time.
The Hawkeyes have won 24 NCAA National Championships overall. The last time they won an NCAA Championship was in 2021. Since then, the Hawkeyes have reached the top two only once, finishing second overall at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
The Iowa Wrestling team began the NCAA season this year with a victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. However, they lost badly to the Penn State Nittany Lions 32-3, with only Nasir Bailey putting up any resistance.
Even top-ranked wrestler Angelo Ferrari couldn’t offer any resistance as he lost to emerging Penn State sensation Rocco Welsh by 1-2 in the tiebreaker. It would be interesting to see how the Hawkeyes manage to win the away game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
