Iowa Hawkeyes Wrestling vs Nebraska Final Results: Gabe Arnold Secures Major Upset By Taking Down All American Silas Allred

Here is all you need to know about Iowa wrestling's 22-14 victory over Nebraska, featuring Gabe Arnold's upset of Silas Allred and full dual results.

The Iowa Hawkeyes Wrestling team is back in form. Although AJ Ferrari gave his best, it wasn’t enough as the Hawkeyes won the duel against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their backyard. The Hawkeyes gained an early lead and held on to win the dual 22-14. This was the first loss for the Huskers this year.

The Hawkeyes started on a brilliant note with consecutive victories at 125 and 133 pounds. However, Brock Hardy brought Huskers back into the game by defeating Nasir Bailey by 1-0 in the men’s 141 lbs. category.

The Huskers and the Hawkeyes fought neck to neck until the men’s 184 lbs. category, where two-time Big Ten medalist and All-American wrestler Silas Allred faced Gabe Arnold. However, to everyone’s surprise, Arnold defeated the wrestler, winning 4-1.

Even though the Huskers fought back, the deficit created by Arnold’s surprise victory couldn’t be covered. AJ Ferrari scored a consolation victory by defeating Ben Kueter by 4-1 in the 285 lbs. category, reducing the overall deficit to 14-22.

Interestingly, the Iowa Hawkeyes’ current victory over the Huskers is their second consecutive win over the Huskers, the previous one coming last year, when the Hawkeyes edged the Huskers 19-16.

This is phenomenal, given that the Iowa Hawkeyes finished fourth overall in the previous NCAA Championships. The Nebraska Cornhuskers, on the other hand, finished second behind the overall champions, the Penn State Nittany Lions, who won the team title for a fourth consecutive time. Former Olympic champion turned mentor David Taylor did the unthinkable as the Oklahoma State Cowboys finished third overall, their best performance in recent years.
