Nebraska Volleyball standout Harper Murray opened up about the joy of reuniting with her former teammate, Ally Batenhorst, during the Huskers’ clash with the University of Southern California. The two shared the court for Nebraska in 2023, before Batenhorst made the leap to USC for the 2024 season.
The two shared a close friendship during their time together, and still keep in touch after Batenhorst ended her collegiate career and turned professional.
What Message Did Harper Murray Send To Batenhorst After Meeting Her?
Murray recorded impressive performances in California as the Huskers faced USC and UCLA over the past week. She recorded 24 kills in both games combined, leading the way as one of the team’s top performers alongside Bergen Reilly, Rebekah Allick, and Andi Jackson. Murray is currently in her junior year with the team and will be looking to win her first national championship this season.
In a story shared on Instagram, Murray wrote: “I love you @allybatenhorst ❤️🥹,”

Batenhorst attended the Nebraska vs USC game with her beach volleyball partner, Sara Hughes. The former Husker is currently serving a suspension from the FIVB for testing positive for a banned substance at a game in California last month.
However, her legal team stated that they expect the ban to be lifted very soon, as the positive test resulted from a doctor-prescribed medication that both USA Volleyball and FIVB were previously informed about.
Murray On How She Wants To Be Remembered At Nebraska
Murray joined the Nebraska Volleyball squad in 2023 as the nation’s top recruit, fresh off earning Gatorade National Player of the Year and Michigan Volleyball Player of the Year honors in 2022. Now in her third season, she has firmly established herself as one of the sport’s brightest stars. How does she reflect on her journey with the Huskers so far?
In an interview with Hurrdat Sports, Murray discussed how she wants to be remembered for her time at Nebraska, saying:
“I think I want to be remembered simply as someone who is just a good teammate. And of course, each person has their “why”. I think I want to just be remembered as someone who is a good teammate and is loyal to the people around them, because I like to think I’m a pretty honest person, and I really cherish my relationships that I’ve made here.”
She also revealed that she began writing former Husker Lexi Rodriguez’s number on her finger as a tribute, underscoring her desire to always play for those beside her.
