Head coach of the Nebraska Volleyball team, Dani Busboom Kelly, recently expressed her thoughts on Bergen Reilly’s historic performance. The Nebraska Volleyball co-skipper has won the B1G Setter of the Year for the third consecutive season. Reilly is the first player to achieve the distinction in her freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons.
Reilly also won the Player of the Year Award for the season. Busboom Kelly recently expressed her admiration for Reilly as a team player.
Dani Busboom Kelly highlights the dedication of Bergen Reilly as a team player
In her recent interview with the B1G Network ahead of the 2025 NCAA Championships season opener, Busboom Kelly discussed the dedication of the respective players, particularly Reilly. The head coach of the Nebraska Volleyball team raved about her distribution skills and how she managed to inspire her remaining team members.
In the interview with the B1G Network, Kelly was asked about what made Reilly so special. The head coach replied that even if she doesn’t expressly mention it, Reilly is quick to devise a strategy that turns the game to the Huskers’ advantage. Kelly mentioned:
“I think you know, this year, she has been just incredible at her distribution. So on the court, just making sure everybody’s involved, and a lot of times, I’ll be looking at the stats and think, ‘Oh, we need to get this person more involved,’ and even without telling Bergen, she comes out maybe in game two or three, and that player’s attempts will immediately skyrocket up.”
Under Busboom Kelly’s mentorship, the Nebraska Volleyball team has won the Big Ten Conference Title for the third consecutive year since 2023. Kelly had joined the Nebraska Cornhuskers in January 2025 as the head coach.
Busboom Kelly Reveals What Helped Reilly Stand Out in The Current Season
Busboom Kelly also highlighted the crucial factor that helped Reilly stand out in the current season. The head coach of the Nebraska Volleyball team mentioned further in the interview,
“But I think this year, what helps her stand out too is just her confidence and her leadership and the way she’s running the court, and again, she’s just really calm and consistent and somebody our players are constantly looking to in tight moments.”
After the Big Ten Conference title, Dani Busboom Kelly has now set her sights on the coveted NCAA Championships. The Nebraska Volleyball team has not won the title in the last eight years, although they came close on multiple occasions in 2018, 2021, and 2023, respectively. The Nebraska Cornhuskers will compete against the LIU Sharks in their inaugural game scheduled for Dec. 5.
