Chloe Kim came to the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics aiming to make it three in a row. The snowboarder-turned-actress had won two Olympic gold medals and was set to pursue a third.
However, Choi Gaon, a teenage snowboarder from South Korea, upended her plans, and Kim settled for a silver medal. Despite the setback, the American snowboarder said she has no regrets and is proud of her journey.

The soon-to-be 26-year-old snowboarder spoke about her performance at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics 2026. Kim said she is grateful for the experience, which pushed her to expand her limits. The snowboarder said,

“You know, I think for so long, I won the events doing the same run over and over again. And I think seeing this new shift in progression has inspired me to push my limits and try things that I never done before. And so I just want to say to the entire women’s field. Thank you so much for giving me that opportunity, because I think if they didn’t push me, I wouldn’t have been able to see how far could I go as as a snowboarder.”

Kim made her Olympic debut at 17 at the 2018 Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. She impressed with her performance, winning the halfpipe event. Before her senior debut, Kim won two gold medals at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.
Kim captured gold medals at the 2021 and 2023 World Championships. She also won a total of 10 medals at the Winter X Games, including two gold medals. When she won gold at the 2025 World Championships, Kim was labeled the favorite for Olympic gold at Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2026.
At the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Kim maintained her form in the preliminaries, qualifying for the finals as the top-ranked snowboarder. However, South Korean snowboarder Choi Ga-on delivered a standout performance, defeating Kim to win the halfpipe with a score of 90.25. Kim earned the silver medal with a score of 88, while Mitsuki Ono of Japan, who won bronze at the 2025 World Championships, took bronze with a score of 85.
