As American alpine ski racing sensation Breezy Johnson gears up for another shot at Olympic glory, she let the world know just how much her recent World Cup podium meant to her. With the Milan Olympics set to kick off this week, all eyes are on Johnson as she chases gold for Team USA in the women’s downhill and super-G events.
Johnson will stand alongside fellow skiing icons Mikaela Shiffrin and Lindsey Vonn in Milan this week, and she may also take on the challenge of the women’s team alpine combined event.
Breezy Johnson Gets Candid About Her Podium Finish
Last year marked a breakthrough for Johnson, as she captured her first major international titles with two gold medals at the 2025 FIS Alpine World Championships: women’s downhill and the debut team alpine combined event alongside Mikaela Shiffrin. She carried this momentum into the 2025-26 season, racking up top finishes that landed her 8th in the downhill standings.
After clinching third place at the Crans-Montana World Cup race on January 31, 2026, just 0.36 seconds behind Swiss winner Malorie Blanc, Johnson celebrated her achievement on Instagram. She wrote:
“The look when something you never thought was even possible becomes a reality,”

Johnson’s 3rd-place finish marked her first-ever World Cup podium in the super-G. It was also her ninth podium overall and first since the Kvitfjell downhill last season.
Johnson Opens Up on Her Injury Struggles Ahead of Milan Games
Johnson has been struggling with many injuries this season, including a lingering back injury described as chronic or nagging rather than a new acute tear. She has also picked up
many injuries in the past, including knee injuries (ACL tears, MCL/PCL damage).
In a recent interview, Johnson spoke about her struggles and how she is feeling ahead of the Games:
“As athletes, we’re used to really good control over our bodies, right? We can do extreme athletic events, and then suddenly you can’t even, you know, turn a muscle on and walk. At this point, I’m like, you know, your next Olympics is definitely not guaranteed. You never know when the journey will end, and so you have to seize the opportunities that are in front of you,” she said.
In the conversation, Johnson also added that she wants to realize her dream of winning an Olympic medal. She has made one Olympic appearance so far, at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where she placed 7th in women’s downhill and 14th in super-G.
