This is the third consecutive victory for the Hokies’ wrestling squad this year. They had previously competed against the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Appalachian State Mountaineers. While the Hokies had to fight it out against the Panthers to win 18-15, the Appalachian wrestlers were steamrolled 39-0.

Bo Bassett is well-known on the high school wrestling circuit. Alongside his brother, Keegan, and teammates like Jackson Butler, Melvin Miller, and Jax Forrest, the Bishop McCort High School alumnus has shone in both domestic and international wrestling. Bassett also has a World U17 title and a World U20 Championship bronze medal to his credit.

As such, many sports buffs were looking forward to his college commitment. Initially, the teenage wrestler signed up for the Iowa Hawkeyes. However, he didn’t like the idea eventually and reentered the transfer portal. Eventually, the 19-year-old will be drafted by the Virginia Tech Hokies, which he’ll join after completing high school this year.

Bo Bassett had a forgettable season this year. Forget qualifying for the senior World Championships, Bassett couldn’t even qualify for the Under-23 version. However, the teenage wrestler more than made up for it with a gold medal in the men’s 65kg wrestling at the Junior Pan American Games held in Asuncion, Paraguay.

The wrestler also won a gold medal at the Grand Prix wrestling tournament, in addition to making his pro debut with the RAF Wrestling League. Conceptualized by former WWE star Hulk Hogan, the inaugural edition of the tournament was launched last year.
