Bo Bassett Makes Pennsylvania Wrestling History With Record-Breaking Milestone

Rising American wrestling star and Virginia Tech commit Bo Bassett has reached another remarkable milestone in his already impressive journey.

Rising American wrestling star Bo Bassett has reached another remarkable milestone in his already impressive journey. Widely celebrated as one of the nation’s most electrifying prospects, Bassett dominates the mat for Bishop McCort Catholic High School, where he amassed a flawless 126-0 folkstyle record from 2022 to 2025 and captured two PIAA Class AA state crowns.

In October 2025, he pledged his talents to Virginia Tech, where he will begin competing in fall 2026.

Bo Bassett’s Latest Achievement

On the national stage, Bassett reigns as the top-ranked high school wrestler at 150 pounds, powering through a senior season that has only added to his growing legend.

Bassett’s talents have shone brightly on the international stage as well. At just 14, he captured gold at the 2021 Cadet World Championships (U17) in Budapest, becoming the youngest cadet world champion in history. He added to his collection with gold medals at the 2025 Junior Pan American Games and the 2024 U20 Pan American Championships, setting the stage for a promising future among the world’s elite.

As revealed in a post on Instagram, Bassett has now achieved the feat of becoming the first wrestler in Pennsylvania wrestling history to register 100 tech falls.

He achieved this while competing for Bishop McCort at the PIAA Class AA Team State Wrestling Championships on February 6-7, where he helped his school finish 2nd overall.

Bassett’s path to two PIAA individual state championships was marked by sheer dominance. In 2024, as a freshman and sophomore, he stormed to victory with commanding tech falls, including a 21-6 triumph in the finals. The following year, he clinched his second title with a swift pin in just 1:52 against Hudson Hohman.

Bassett Opens Up on His Aspirations At Virginia Tech

Bassett is set to join a dynamic Virginia Tech squad eager to challenge Penn State’s reign over NCAA Wrestling. Though he drew interest from Penn State and its renowned coach Cael Sanderson, Bassett ultimately chose to bring his talents to the Hokies.

In an interview, Bassett spoke about what he wants to achieve with Virginia Tech, saying: (17:46 onwards)

“At Virginia Tech, I feel as though I can achieve all the goals that I have. Some of those that I have are obviously you want to win individual titles, and you want to leave your mark and your legacy as who you are as an individual,” Bassett said. “But I think something at Virginia Tech that I believe that we can do is we can win team trophies and we can win team titles and we can put the ACC up there with the Big 10 and we can really grow wrestling right here in Blacksburg,” he added.

The Hokies are still chasing their first NCAA team title, with their top finish a fourth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships, where they matched an ACC record by producing six All-Americans.
