Bergen Reilly Keeps Her Cool As Nebraska Volleyball Teammate Laney Choboy Puts Her on the Spot

Nebraska Volleyball's Bergen Reilly faced a surprise question from her teammate Laney Choboy in a recent press conference.

Maintaining a perfect 26-0 record brings immense pressure, but for the Nebraska Volleyball team, it also brings a unique sense of humor. During a recent press conference, star setter Bergen Reilly was handling standard questions about the team’s success when the session was unexpectedly crashed by one of her own teammates, leading to a memorable and lighthearted moment.

How Did Bergen Reilly React to a Teammate’s Surprise Question?

While Reilly and freshman Teraya Sigler were speaking to the media about their successful trip to Los Angeles, their teammate Laney Choboy jumped in with a question of her own. The standout libero’s surprise appearance caused Sigler to laugh, but Reilly smiled and remained composed as she fielded the question about managing burnout during a long season.

In her response, the Nebraska junior emphasized the importance of enjoying the season and maintaining a positive mindset. Reilly mentioned that finding time for hobbies and self-care is crucial.

She also credited coach Dani Busboom Kelly for fostering a team environment focused on enjoying each game, rather than only its outcome. Additionally, Reilly added that she is excited to finish the Big Ten schedule strong and enter the tournament with confidence.

Reilly’s leadership is clear, as she was named one of three co-captains for the season, alongside Andi Jackson and Rebekah Allick. Her performance has also earned her a spot as a semi-finalist for the 2025 AVCA Player of the Year Award. The 14-player list also includes her teammates Harper Murray and Jackson, giving Nebraska the most substantial presence of any program.

How Did Reilly View the End of Nebraska’s 48-Set Winning Streak?

Beyond the fun team dynamic, the Huskers’ resilience has been a key part of their undefeated run. After an incredible 48-set winning streak, Nebraska finally dropped a set against UCLA. However, Reilly viewed the loss as a learning moment for the team, not a failure.

The star setter explained that the frustration came not from losing the set itself, but from the team’s uncharacteristic lack of effort during that stretch. In the press conference, she elaborated on the experience.

“Honestly, losing a set was probably going to help us reach our goal more than just winning a bunch of sweeps in a row,” Reilly said. “I think it was frustrating to lose this set because we kind of beat ourselves. We didn’t work as hard as we normally do, and we weren’t making the plays we usually would.”

Despite dropping the third set, Nebraska showed its strength by bouncing back to win the match 3-1, with scores of 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, and 25-15. Following that victory, the Huskers continued their road trip by sweeping the USC Trojans, ending their nine-match winning streak and silencing the home crowd.
