Amber Glenn Admits Turning Down Major Money to Prioritize World Championships

Amber Glenn opened up about a side of elite sport that often goes unnoticed. As her profile grew after the Olympics, so did the number of opportunities coming her way. From public appearances to high-paying events, there was a lot on the table.
But with the World Championships approaching, she found herself facing difficult choices.

Amber Glenn Chooses Focus Over Fame as World Championships Take Priority

Glenn had been skating well coming into the Olympic season, and it showed. At the 2026 Winter Olympics, she was part of the Team USA squad that won gold in the team event, delivering clean performances when they counted.

Then it was on to Prague for the 2026 World Championships. The short program put her in a decent position. The free skate was a different story; she struggled, fell down the standings, and ended up sixth.

After her Olympic success, Glenn suddenly found herself balancing more than just training schedules. New opportunities kept coming in, from public appearances to events that could have added to her income and visibility. It was a shift that the American had not really experienced before, and managing it alongside preparation for a major competition was not easy.

Speaking in an interview with Olympics.com, Glenn reflected on the kind of choices she had to make during that period, and how staying focused on the World Championships meant stepping away from several tempting offers.

“There was a thought of, I had to turn down so many career opportunities that I was thinking about. Of, ‘I could make this money, or I could be on this public stage, or I can attend this premiere, but I need to be responsible and train for worlds’. I’m so grateful that I have these, and hopefully we’ll continue to have opportunities like this because of the Olympics,” she said.

After experiencing a surge in attention and opportunities following her Olympic debut, the American figure skater admitted that handling everything alongside training was completely new and felt very different from anything she had faced before.

“But it was something that I haven’t had to manage before, because I hadn’t been to the Olympics before, so it was very different,” she added.

After a long and demanding season, Glenn is now looking to reset and recover before planning her next move. She’s talked about being worn down after the season, mentally as much as physically. There’s some satisfaction in that exhaustion, though Glenn hit the goals she set for herself, and her results helped the U.S. lock up three spots for the 2027 World Championships.
