‘Comeback Season Is Tough’ — Mikaela Shiffrin’s Fiance Aleksander Kilde Reveals Painful Reality After Missing The Streif

Mikaela Shiffrin's fiance Aleksander Kilde reveals the harsh reality of comeback season as he misses out on the Streif event.

Mikaela Shiffrin’s fiancé, Aleksander Kilde, is growing frustrated as lingering back pain forced him to miss another key World Cup event. The Norwegian star has undergone multiple surgeries following a serious crash in a downhill race in Wengen in January 2024. With his recovery timeline still uncertain, Kilde now faces the real possibility of missing the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

Kilde was to participate in a Super G race at the FIS World Cup meet in Kitzbuehel on January 23. However, the skier pulled out at the last minute due to persistent fitness issues.

The Norwegian skier opened up about his frustration at his current state in a descriptive Instagram post. Kilde wrote:

“Didn’t plan to post this again. A few days ago, back pain didn’t allow me to ski for the last days. Physio, hours of conversations, hope — we tried everything. But one lesson learned: don’t start unless you’re 100%, especially on the Streif.”

Kilde further added his opinion about the comeback season as he wrote:

“Comeback season is tough, and not starting on the Streif after a good block of training over the last weeks hurts. The Streif is always something special, and together with @boss we had some nice things planned, but well… We take things as they come and look forward to the next race. It will come.”

Shiffrin suffered a similar issue when she had a near-fatal crash in November 2024, sustaining a puncture wound in her abdomen. However, she made a remarkable comeback within two months, finishing tenth overall in a slalom event at Courchevel.

Kilde’s Overall Track Record

Kilde has been brilliant in downhill racing. The skier started his career on a solid note, as he won the 2013 Junior World Championships in the giant slalom category.

Kilde struggled to maintain the same consistency until 2022, when he shone at the Beijing Winter Olympics. In his third attempt at Olympic glory, Kilde won a silver medal in the men’s combined event, as well as a bronze medal in the Super G event.

The 33-year-old Norwegian skier also won two silver medals at the 2023 World Championships in the downhill and Super G, and hopes to make it in time for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
