After Nebraska fell to the Penn State Wrestling team, star wrestler AJ Ferrari did not hold back in sharing his thoughts on both the Huskers’ and his own performance. Since joining Nebraska for the 2025-26 season, Ferrari has turned heads in the heavyweight division after moving up from his usual 197-pound class.
Even as the team came up short, Ferrari capped off the night with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over No. 12 Cole Mirasola. The Huskers have now lost three matches in a row and will be looking to bounce back and get their season back on track as soon as possible.
AJ Ferrari’s Message After Loss to Penn State
Guided by head coach Mark Manning, Nebraska Wrestling has built an impressive legacy, earning five Top-Five NCAA Team Finishes and celebrating seven Individual National Champions. Manning’s leadership was recognized in 2025 when he was named NCAA Tournament Coach of the Year after steering the team to a historic second-place finish, the best in program history.
In a post on Instagram, Ferrari reflected on the loss to Penn State, captioning the post with:
“Definitely not my best performance, but progress and the development of mental toughness > perfection and perfect circumstances. Didn’t feel my best – very fatigued even before the match and my timing was off – but I’ll get in better shape and my skills will sharpen and timing will improve. The mission is intact and stays the same regardless…” he wrote.
Ferrari added by describing how he and the team will respond to another defeat: “Me and THE Nebraska Gang will ReCalibrate, ReEvaluate, and ReLoad. We will be back and on top soon. We Praise Yahuah (God Our Father) in victory or defeat!,”
Next up, Ferrari and the Nebraska Wrestling team will take the mat for their final home showdown of the season against Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. (CT). The event will double as a senior day celebration and will be available to stream on B1G+.
Ferrari Hits Signature Splits After Victory
Following his win over No. 12 Cole Mirasola, Ferrari brought the crowd to its feet at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa., dropping into his signature splits. The move has become a crowd-pleasing spectacle, electrifying fans every time.
Before their clash with Penn State, Ferrari and the Huskers battled Ohio State and Iowa, coming up short in both duals. Against Ohio State, Ferrari went toe-to-toe with No. 3 Nick Feldman; the match was knotted at 1-1 through regulation before Feldman clinched a 4-1 win in sudden victory. Ferrari rebounded against Iowa, notching a 4-1 triumph over No. 8 Ben Kueter.
