The 2-6 Miami Dolphins don’t have a lot left to be fighting for. The team feels like it’s on the brink of a collapse, with a complete roster teardown seemingly imminent. However, in the first half against the Baltimore Ravens, there was a clear edge and desperation to their game.
The reactions from head coach Mike McDaniel and the purpose from the players on the field were clear to see. However, near the end of the period, the team may have suffered a brutal blow in the form of Ollie Gordon II.
What Happened to Ollie Gordon?
Slotting into the backup running back role behind De’Von Achane, Gordon already had two carries worth six yards so far in the game. However, his loudest moment of the night came when he was called for a tripping penalty.
After Tua Tagovailoa made a sublime throw to Jaylen Waddle for 36 yards, the penalty ruled the play null and void while giving the Dolphins a 10-yard penalty. However, in the second half, the going got worse for Gordon.
With one catch worth three yards to his name, Gordon was trying to block the Ravens on an Achane run. However, a tackle from Malaki Starks resulted in the Baltimore rookie crashing into Gordon’s leg.
Immediately writhing in agony, he limped off the field and into the medical tent. Soon after, Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network confirmed his status, “Dolphins RB Ollie Gordon II just limped to the locker room after a few minutes in medical tent. Gordon has an ankle injury, questionable to return.”

For a Miami team trying to find its way back into the thick of things this season, the Gordon injury was yet another blow to an already depleted roster. A sixth-round pick this season for the Dolphins, he has 116 rushing yards and a touchdown through eight games.
Averaging under four yards per carry, he also has 27 yards and one touchdown on five catches, while being targeted seven times. Right now, he is behind Achane on the depth chart. But with a potential trade coming down the line for the veteran running back, his role on the team could expand in the near future.
