Russell Wilson officially announced his retirement after 14 years in the NFL, and, as such, early discussions are underway about whether he deserves to be inducted into the Hall of Fame someday. The veteran compiled an impressive resume, largely as the Seattle Seahawks’ franchise quarterback, and now it’s time to weigh his chances for a Golden Jacket.
Was Russell Wilson a Top-Five QB for Long Enough in the NFL?
A 121-80-1 record as a starter, 10 Pro Bowls, and a Super Bowl are usually enough to get any quarterback into the Hall of Fame. Neither Dan Marino nor Joe Montana made it to 10 Pro Bowls, and both of them are securely in the Hall. Marino also never even won a Super Bowl.
Wilson, however, seems to face early headwinds in his bid to don a Golden Jacket in the future. Despite a stacked resume and an iconic run in the 2010s that saw the Seahawks win their first-ever Super Bowl, the quarterback seems set for an uphill climb into the Hall of Fame.
Former Pro Bowl wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh opened up about what he thinks of Wilson as a general football player.
“I do not [think he’ll be inducted],” he said on “Speakeasy.” “Congratulations to Russell Wilson on a hell of a career… Just from seeing him — the type of dude I want my daughter to marry, and I have three of them. And that’s just from the outside looking in on the way he carries and conducts himself. He seems like he is a great human being, like he’d be a great husband to any woman.”
“Russell Wilson should not make the Hall of Fame, because he falls short of being a top 5 QB for 5 years”

Wilson’s off-field fanfare, however, won’t factor into the ballot. The quarterback played in an age when he had to compete with the likes of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, and Patrick Mahomes.

Compared to the legends of his time, Houshmandzadeh isn’t convinced that Wilson ranks high enough to make it into the Hall. The veteran’s run over the last five years also doesn’t help his case, as he went 23-35 as a starter and posted a 69.9 PFSN QB Impact rating in 2022.
“As a football player — hell of a football player. I just believe he falls a little bit short, getting into the Hall of Fame, because once he left Seattle, it was pretty much downhill. To me, you’d have to have been a top-five player at your position for five years — I say that all the time — and if you weren’t, it’s hard for me to say you’re a Hall of Famer.”
Wilson’s 10-year stint in Seattle, which’ll live long in the memories of Seahawks fans, will have to carry him into the Hall one day.
