No. 1 Draft Pick Contender Shedeur Sanders Weighs In on Will Howard’s Rough NFL Combine Outing

Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders defended Ohio State Buckeyes QB Will Howard after his rough outing at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders has come to the defense of Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard. Earlier this week, Sanders took to social media to express confusion over Howard’s criticism following his performance at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

Howard struggled at times during the combine, having difficulty consistently connecting with his wide receivers.

What Did Shedeur Sanders Say About Will Howard?

Sanders pointed out that throwing accurately can be challenging when working with a new group of wide receivers without prior chemistry.

“I don’t understand y’all hating on @whoward_ he just won a natty. It’s hard to throw to WR’s that you don’t know, everyone run routes different!,” Sanders stated.

“Shedeur Sanders posted this in regards to Will Howard’s combine performance. Howard struggled on some throws and was even booed by the crowd,” the post read.

This past season, Sanders threw for 4,134 yards, 41 total touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while completing 74.0% of his passes. Meanwhile, Howard recorded 4,010 passing yards, 42 total touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 73.1% completion percentage.

Shedeur Sanders, Will Howard 2025 NFL Draft Projection

Both Sanders and Howard are expected to be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft in April. While Sanders is projected to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board, Howard is viewed as a mid-to-late-round pick.

In PFSN’s recent seven-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft by Ben Rolfe, Sanders was selected No. 2 overall by the Cleveland Browns.

“While the Cleveland Browns may not be the most desirable landing spot for off-field elements for Shedeur Sanders, it is far from a bad situation for the Colorado quarterback. The Browns have a lot of pieces in place around Sanders and were really only held back by the quarterback play in 2024.

“Sanders is a promising NFL prospect. He is a pocket passer with enough mobility to make him effective. There are concerns about his arm strength, but he mitigates those with his compact release and impressive accuracy. Those mechanics can hide concerns when pressured, which is a concern with the Browns’ offensive line ranking 20th last season.”

Meanwhile, Howard was projected as a fourth-round pick at No. 115 overall by the Miami Dolphins. However, some believe his showing at the combine may have negatively impacted his draft stock. Despite this, as Sanders made clear, he does not understand the level of criticism Howard has been receiving.
