Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins failed to make the playoffs this season. They lost 32-20 to the New York Jets in Week 18 in what was a finish to arguably the worst season of Hill’s career on a team level.
Before this season, the star wide receiver had never missed out on a playoff appearance, and it was a challenging experience for him. Hill also expressed his desire to leave the Dolphins in the offseason, and Nick Wright predicted a scenario in which the wideout could return to the Kansas City Chiefs in the future.
Nick Wright Predicts Tyreek Hill To Play for Chiefs in 2026
In a recent segment on FS1’s “First Things First,” Wright talked about how Hill could potentially return to the team that drafted him in 2026.
“I mean, he [Hill] misses the Chiefs,” Wright said. “That’s where this all comes from because they kept winning without him, they got more famous … so I’m gonna go ahead and make a prediction on how this plays out. … You just can’t cut him. It’s $28 million in dead money to trade him, which isn’t great, but it’s [Hill’s contract] tradable.”
The 30-year-old wide receiver signed a three-year, $90 million restructured contract with the Dolphins. He is under contract until 2026, but as Wright suggested, it’s a tradable contract, and there will be plenty of teams interested in getting him.
“They’re gonna get a 2nd or a 3rd Round pick for Tyreek Hill, maybe from the Chargers, more likely an NFC team like the Cowboys or the Commanders…and that team will release him and in 2026 he’ll be a Chief again.”

The Fox Sports analyst mentioned that although the Chiefs will not trade for Hill, they could get him for free in 2026.
“I think they’re [Dolphins] going to get a second- or a third-round pick for Tyreek Hill,” Wright added. “Maybe from the [Los Angeles Chargers], more likely, an NFC team like the [Dallas Cowboys or the Washington Commanders]. And then a year after that, that will not have worked out for the parties, and that team will release him, and in 2026, he’ll be a Chief again.”
Kansas City currently has a good group of receivers, and while both are free agents, both DeAndre Hopkins and Hollywood Brown could stay beyond this season. However, a move for Hill in 2026 makes a lot of sense for the Chiefs, as Travis Kelce could be retired by then, and Patrick Mahomes may love to have a player who was on the team when he started his NFL career.
It will also give Hill an opportunity to retire with the Chiefs and compete for another Super Bowl, solidifying his case as an all-time great even further.
Hill Can Be Impactful for the Chiefs
Hill will be 32 years old by the time the 2026 NFL season starts, but he can still be impactful in many ways. If he doesn’t lose his speed to a larger extent, the eight-time Pro Bowler can still instill fear into the opposition.
Over the last few years, we have seen Mahomes and the Chiefs get the best out of out-of-favor players like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Hopkins, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The AFC West franchise can do the same with Hill, as he may not be the team’s WR1 by then but can be useful in some moments.
The Chiefs are set up for success, and Hill knows that. It will be hard for him to find a way to Kansas City in 2025 as his former team will not send draft assets to acquire him, but a move in 2026 is a real possibility.
Hill can be pretty useful for the next season for teams like the Chargers, Commanders, Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, and Chicago Bears, as all these teams could trade for him.
