NFL running back Nick Chubb is somehow still a free agent with the 2025 NFL Draft just over a week away. The former Pro Bowler and 2022 second-team AP All-Pro suffered a gruesome knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, which caused him to miss the rest of the year.
Chubb returned in 2024, though seemingly not at full strength, and posted a modest stat line: 102 carries for 332 yards and three touchdowns before suffering a broken foot late in the year that ended his season. And while many thought that might be the end of his run as one of the league’s top backs, Chubb took to social media to quiet the doubters.
Nick Chubb Silences Doubters via Viral Workout
In what’s become yet another viral NFL workout video, Chubb is seen squatting well over 500 pounds as his workout partners cheer him on. NFL media personality Dov Kleiman posted the video to social media with the caption, “Dawg: Nick Chubb is back is squatting over 500lbs…Chubb is somehow still a free agent.”
As noted in Kleiman’s post, Chubb captioned the video on his own Instagram with, “They’ve already wrote my ending when I’m just getting started.”
Chubb’s contract with the Cleveland Browns expired at the end of last season, making him a free agent for the first time since he was drafted in 2018. While his final seasons in Cleveland were marred by injuries, Chubb’s prior years firmly established him as one of the league’s elite running backs.
From 2019 to 2022, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards each season, totaled 42 touchdowns, and lost just six fumbles.
Chubb’s Potential Landing Spots
While it’s possible Chubb eventually re-signs with the Browns, many believe he’ll land somewhere else when it’s all said and done. Nevertheless, Cleveland’s RB room is thin without him. As of now, Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr. would likely lead the backfield unless a draft pick rises up the depth chart.
Upon the start of free agency, PFSN’s Cameron Sheath shared his opinion on Chubb’s future, listing the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, and Las Vegas Raiders as potential destinations for the veteran RB.
Each of those teams makes sense for similar reasons. The Seahawks have Kenneth Walker III as their lead back, but adding Chubb would give them solid depth. The Raiders may draft Ashton Jeanty and added Raheem Mostert this offseason, but given last season’s struggles in the run game, they could still use help.
Meanwhile, with Najee Harris gone, the Steelers are a logical fit for Chubb. And the Broncos, who lack a clear-cut starter, may offer the most enticing path to a featured role as Chubb looks to prove he’s still elite.
Wherever he lands, Chubb is determined to remind the NFL just how dominant he can be.
