Capitals vs. Oilers Injury Report

Washington has a short injury list, but both players are impactful. Defenseman Jakob Chychrun is listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed issue. Forward Pierre-Luc Dubois remains on injured reserve with an abdominal injury and is expected to be out until at least early March.

Edmonton is also dealing with two missing players. Kasperi Kapanen is sidelined with an undisclosed injury and is expected to miss time until at least Jan. 29. Center Adam Henrique remains on injured reserve. He is not projected to return before late February.

Which Team Can Outplay the Other, Capitals or Oilers?

If we look closely at both teams‘ performances, Edmonton holds a slight edge in offensive output and special teams. The Oilers rank near the top of the league in power play efficiency and goals per game. Much of that success runs through Connor McDavid, who continues to drive play and has 85 points this season. However, he has not scored in his last two games.

Washington relies more on structure and defensive balance. John Carlson remains an important playmaker from the blue line with 32 assists, while captain Alex Ovechkin and Tom Wilson tied with 44 points. The Capitals have already beaten Edmonton once this season and will look to repeat that formula. Their depth is superior to Edmonton’s beyond the top four producers.

This game could swing on special teams and goaltending. Edmonton’s firepower gives them an advantage at home, but Washington will aim to stay disciplined and build an early lead. The Oilers have suffered losses when chasing this season.
