Canucks Trade Rumors: Insider Claims Vancouver Aren’t Done Yet Despite Lukas Reichel Move

Despite trading for Lukas Reichel, insider Marco D’Amico suspects Vancouver Canucks to make more moves this season.

The Vancouver Canucks are 4-4-0 heading into the 2025-26 season. They had a relatively quiet offseason, acquiring forward Evander Kane and hiring a new coach, Adam Foote. Still, they were looking to improve, but eight games into the season, they are sitting fifth in the Pacific Division.

The Canucks have lost to teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Edmonton Oilers. They are averaging just 2.63 goals per game and are allowing 3, indicating concerns on both the offensive and defensive fronts going forward. Their power play is at 14.3%, further raising questions about their ability to be a contender.

Are the Canucks Still Looking To Make Trades After Getting Lukas Reichel?

Vancouver acquired young forward Lukas Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. Reichel, 23, was picked 17th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. He joins the Canucks in the final year of his two-year deal worth $2.4 million. General manager Patrik Allvin said, via Sportsnet,

“Lukas is a player we’ve tracked for a long time, and his skill set is undeniable. He’s a young player with high hockey IQ and speed who just needs the right opportunity to find his confidence and develop into a consistent NHL player. We believe our environment here in Vancouver will give him that opportunity to thrive.”

So far this season, Reichel has played five games, scoring two goals and two assists. He is averaging about 10 minutes of ice time per game and has a +1 rating, showing promise as a young forward.

Despite this move, NHL insider Marco D’Amico suspected the Canucks to make more moves. He tweeted,

“I get the Canucks just traded for Reichel, but they aren’t satisfied yet.”

He also mentioned that Vancouver is active in trade discussions with the Calgary Flames, another team struggling with offense.

“Two teams to watch on the trade front early this season are the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames. Lots of calls going in and out there, for different reasons.”

Reichel’s arrival gives Vancouver a young forward to build around, but the team may continue to make changes. Fans will have to watch closely to see if more moves come, especially to improve their power play.

Can the Vancouver Regain Their Scoring Touch After a Close Loss to the Predators?

At Bridgestone Arena on Thursday, the Nashville Predators defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-1. The game was close thanks to goalie Thatcher Demko’s 33 saves, but the Canucks were unable to muster enough offensive effort. Late in the game, Vancouver had a strong chance to tie the score, but Brock Boeser’s attempt was blocked.

“He had a really good look at the end,” Adam Foote said, via NHL.com. “It was right there but, you know, not much you can do.”

The Canucks have been competitive in most games but need more scoring consistency to keep pace in the Pacific Division. Their defense and goaltending remain consistent, but the offense has struggled to finish chances.
