Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry is starting to draw interest across the league, especially from the Edmonton Oilers, who continue to struggle in net.
With the Penguins carrying four goalies, Jarry, Arturs Silovs, Sergei Murashov, and Joel Blomqvist (AHL), trade chatter has started to pick up. Now, an NHL insider has shed more light on the growing Tristan Jarry trade buzz.
What Did an NHL Insider Say About Tristan Jarry’s Trade Rumors?
Jarry returned from a lower-body injury on Wednesday, making 29 saves in a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres after missing seven games. He has posted a 2.53 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage through eight games this season.
A strong rebound from last year’s struggles, when he finished with a 16-12-6 record, a .893 save percentage, and a 3.12 GAA. MoneyPuck ranked him 35th last season, making this year’s turnaround even more notable.
Trade speculation grew after NHL insider Elliotte Friedman pointed to Pittsburgh as a team to watch, noting, “Goalie team to watch: Pittsburgh. Four guys ready to play between the NHL and AHL.” With that kind of depth, many around the league believe a move is coming.
Because of Jarry’s ties to Edmonton, he played his major junior career there with the WHL’s Oil Kings, and the Oilers have been floated as a potential landing spot. Jarry is in the second year of a contract that pays him $5.375 million annually and includes a 12-team no-trade list.

However, not everyone sees a trade as likely. Analyst Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now noted that while Edmonton once looked like a logical match, Jarry’s resurgence complicates things. “Edmonton and Jarry seemed to be a match until Jarry’s drama-filled 2024-25 season.” Kingerski said.
He pointed out Jarry’s chaotic 2024-25 season, which included the Penguins nearly setting an NHL record for most goals allowed on the first shot of the game and Jarry being placed on waivers in January, but only for “Jarry rebounded from the ignominious demotion by reclaiming the Penguins’ starting net over the final month last season,” he added.
This season, Jarry has shared the net with Arturs Silovs but has performed well enough that the Penguins may hesitate to move him, especially after his recent strong play.
For now, it remains unclear whether the Pittsburgh Penguins will actually make Jarry available, but the interest around the league isn’t going away.
