Edmonton Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry was the center of attention Tuesday night, even in defeat. The Oilers remain second in the Pacific Division with a 25-18-8 record and had won two of their previous three games before falling 2-1 to the New Jersey Devils.
Despite the loss, Jarry produced a moment that had fans buzzing, a highlight-reel save that instantly entered the save-of-the-year conversation.
What Did Goalie Tristan Jarry Do That Left Oilers Fans in Awe?
Midway through the second period, with Edmonton trailing 2-1, the Devils generated a dangerous shorthanded chance. Connor Brown burst into the Oilers zone on a 2-on-1 with Cody Glass, drawing the defense before sliding a pass across. Glass released a quick shot at the net. But Jarry made a sliding glove save that sent his legs flying into the air as he spun around on the ice.

The crowd erupted as the highlight quickly circulated as a Save of the Year contender. Jarry made 15 saves in the loss. The game also marked his first home start since being acquired from Pittsburgh on December 12, after opening his Oilers tenure with three straight wins before a lower-body injury sidelined him.
Now fully healthy, the loss to New Jersey was Jarry’s first regulation defeat with the Oilers. He holds a strong 4-1-1 record in Edmonton, along with a 2.48 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage, numbers that reflect his steady presence since returning to action.
How the Game Unfolded
New Jersey opened the scoring at 5:23 of the second period when Gritsyuk finished a centering pass from Glass with a one-timer that slipped under Jarry’s glove.
Edmonton responded quickly. At 7:02, Matthew Savoie tied the game 1-1 after skating to the front of the net and deflecting Jake Walman’s slap shot past Jake Allen following a face-off win by Jack Roslovic.
The Devils regained the lead just over a minute later. Capitalizing on a poor line change by the Oilers, Glass broke in alone down the left wing, took a feed from Gritsyuk, and beat Jarry blocker side at 8:32.
Edmonton pushed hard late, outshooting New Jersey 13-3 in the third period, but Allen stood tall to preserve the Devils’ one-goal victory.
Jarry and Connor Ingram have been rotating starts over Edmonton’s last six games. And if that trend continues, Ingram could get the nod Thursday when the Oilers face the Pittsburgh Penguins. But it would be a matchup with its own storyline if Jarry were to face his former team.
