‘Soft’ St. Louis Blues Receive Damning Indictment Following Shock 8–3 Loss to Blackhawks

As St. Louis scrambled in despair against the Chicago Blackhawks who won 8-3, fans are not sparing the Blues from relentless criticism.

The St. Louis Blues have not had much luck with their home games this season. The Blues opened the season at the Enterprise Center with a 5-0 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Wild. Now, the Blues were dealt a second humiliating loss on home ice by division rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks.

Lukas Reichel of the Blackhawks stood out, accumulating three points (two goals and one assist) to enable Chicago to secure the 8-3 victory against the Blues. As for St. Louis, the team has had to endure much scathing criticism on social media following their poor showing on home ice.

How Are Fans Reacting to the St. Louis Blues’ 8-3 Loss to the Chicago Blackhawks?

The defeat stung all the more because the Blues were fresh off two victorious games on the road. The team had defeated the Calgary Flames 4-2 and the Vancouver Canucks 5-2. But when it was time to save face at the Enterprise Center, the St. Louis outfit failed to maintain the winning pace.

Goalie Joel Hofer registered an abysmal save percentage of .682 vs the Blackhawks. Hofer was pulled in the second period after he had allowed four goals on 14 shots and returned only in the third period. Hofer proved a massive liability in the Blues’ showdown against the Blackhawks, ultimately allowing seven goals on 22 shots. Netminder Jordan Binnington stopped six out of seven shots.

Captain Brayden Schenn did not seem worried about the goaltenders, claiming to have “two of the best goalies in the League and a great tandem.” However, despite Schenn’s reassurance, fans have vociferously criticized the team’s showing after the humbling defeat against the Blackhawks.

Former winger Scottie Upshall spoke up about St. Louis’ underwhelming performance on his X account. The team’s embarrassing loss was compounded because it was on national television. Upshall pointed out the poor goaltending and believed the hockey was “soft” overall.

“Well, on the wrong side of that one tonight! Blues with a pretty poor effort in a big statement game on TNT. Bad goals and pretty soft hockey. Not the team I picked to win the cup this year that’s for sure,” he wrote on X.

Fans raided the comment section expressing their agreement. One social media user stated that the Blues offer little room for hope. A Blues fan approved Upshall’s statement and hoped HC Jim Montgomery would come out strictly during the team’s upcoming practice session.

As the Blues prepare to host the Dallas Stars on October 18, 2025, will they finally be able to get past the drought on home ice?
