Sidney Crosby Fully Endorses $7.5M Philadelphia Flyers Winger

A 23-year-old winger of the Philadelphia Flyers has received high praise from Pittsburgh Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby.

Sidney Crosby trade rumors are running amok in the league right now. There is a real possibility that the Pittsburgh Penguins icon may be moved elsewhere, perhaps to the Montreal Canadiens. Crosby believes that such speculation is inevitable for any team that has failed to produce over time.

Despite the Penguins’ underwhelming performance in recent years, Crosby’s potential is adequately recognized across the league. His voice is one to be reckoned with, and gaining his approval is a remarkable achievement for any young hockey player. The Philadelphia Flyers’ 23-year-old Tyson Foerster is one of the fortunate players in the NHL who has earned Crosby’s praise.

What did Sidney Crosby say about the Philadelphia Flyers’ Tyson Foerster?

The Flyers finished last in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference in 2024-25 with 76 points, indicating the clear need for work. The 23-year-old winger, however, accumulated 43 points (25 goals and 18 assists): a personal best. With 25 goals, the winger ranked second in the Flyers, and despite the team’s underwhelming performance, Foerster caught Crosby’s attention at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.

Foerster earned a ticket to the World Championship and played alongside the Penguins icon. After years of phenomenal hockey, Crosby quickly recognized Foerster’s talent. At a recent media availability, Flyers coach Rick Tocchet reminisced about the time when Crosby called him to express his appreciation for Foerster.

“He’s just a hockey player. He knows where to go. He’s a smart guy. He can finish. Over in the World Championships, Sidney Crosby called me and told me that he loved him. Just off the ice and a sponge and stuff like that,” shared Tocchet. Earning Crosby’s confidence is a “pretty good endorsement,” as the Flyers coach aptly stated.

According to sources, even though the winger incurred an infection-related injury playing for Canada in the World Championships and underwent surgery in the offseason to correct it, Foerster can be expected back to play in the Flyers’ opener against the Florida Panthers on October 9.

The winger, who is just 23, is on a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the Flyers. He has the potential to rise to ever greater heights and looks poised to do the same. Having earned Crosby’s approval, Foerster can be expected to use it to fuel his upcoming season and hopefully, turn things around for the Flyers.

This also shows that the Penguins captain, even after all these years in the NHL, continues to remain an aspirational figure, inspiring young players to be their best selves.
