Sidney Crosby’s Penguins Make History In 6-2 Smackdown of Edmonton Oilers

Penguins crush Oilers 6-2 behind Crosby and Mantha, extend win streak, and look to carry momentum into Canucks game.

Pittsburgh has continued to win by leaning on experience, depth, and timely scoring. Recent games have shown how the team can control pace while getting contributions from multiple lines.

Strong leadership and good goaltending have helped keep the Penguins near the top of the Metropolitan Division. That consistent form carried into a standout performance against Edmonton.

Sidney Crosby Leads Penguins to a Historic 6-2 Win Over Edmonton Oilers, Showing Their Dominance

The Pittsburgh Penguins turned in one of their strongest efforts of the season with a 6-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place. The game shifted early in the first period, when Pittsburgh scored three goals in just 37 seconds.

It marked one of the fastest three-goal bursts in the Penguins’ franchise history and the shortest stretch in which Edmonton has ever allowed three goals. Anthony Mantha scored twice to lead the offense, with Justin Brazeau assisting on both goals. Sidney Crosby also found the net as the Penguins built a 3-0 lead and controlled the flow from there.

Crosby pointed to the team’s early energy and Mantha’s impact during that opening surge. “I don’t think you expect that. ‘Mo’ (Mantha) had a big shift there, he got a couple of goals, and he gave us a boost, and I thought we were ready to go from the start, and sometimes it works out that way,” Crosby said. He also talked about the team’s overall structure, noting that all four lines contributed, penalties were limited, and the group stayed in rhythm throughout the game.

Arturs Silovs stopped 30 shots to help Pittsburgh with its third straight win, while Crosby extended his point streak to five games. Edmonton struggled to climb back after the early deficit, even with goals from Jake Walman and Matt Savoie, and the loss marked another setback in a stretch where the Oilers have dropped four of their last six games. The result followed Pittsburgh’s 4-1 road win over the Calgary Flames, showing the team’s surge in building offensive pressure.

At 38, Crosby remains important for Pittsburgh’s success and continues to perform at a high level. Drafted first overall in 2005, he has built a reputation as a complete center through his playmaking, puck protection, and leadership.

This season, he has recorded 27 goals and 57 points in 50 games, contributing on the power play and leading the overall Penguins’ attack. His presence plays a big role in Pittsburgh’s identity as the team looks to make the playoffs after a three-season drought.

With the playoff race tightening, the Penguins will look to maintain their current form and build on Crosby’s consistent influence.
