‘Feels Like a Shot at Brady Tkachuk’ — Senators Insider Reads Between The Lines of Tim Stützle’s End-of-Season Remark

The Ottawa Senators’ blockbuster decision to trade captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers has sparked plenty of questions about what went wrong behind the scenes. While the move itself stunned the hockey world, new reports suggest the relationship between Tkachuk and the organization had been deteriorating for months.

Now, insiders believe a comment Tim Stützle made at the end of the season may have hinted that a split was already inevitable.

Senators Insider Revisits Tim Stützle’s End-of-Season Comments Amidst Brady Tkachuk Noise

The turning point appears to trace back to the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.

Following Team USA’s gold medal victory, Brady Tkachuk and his brother, Matthew Tkachuk, spoke openly on their Wingmen podcast about their dream of eventually playing together in the NHL. While the conversation was viewed by many as harmless, it quickly fueled speculation that Brady wanted out of Ottawa.

According to Senators insider Alex Adams, those rumors created a constant distraction that wore down the organization.

“Firsthand, being in the room, I know the drama that surrounded Tkachuk from Team USA to the podcast comments was a nuisance that drained everyone in the organization. They played it down, but it was palpable. It’s clear that the rest of the core was ready to move on, and Tkachuk wanted to be gone,” Adams said.

He then pointed to Tim Stützle’s season-ending media availability, where the German forward spoke positively about playing in Canada.

“I keep thinking about Tim Stutzle’s end-of-season availability in which he professed his enjoyment playing in a Canadian market. In hindsight, that comment feels like a shot at Tkachuk, whether it was intended or not.”

At the time, Stützle’s remarks drew little attention. However, following Tkachuk’s departure, Adams believes they carry a very different meaning.

Fans also noticed that most of Tkachuk’s former teammates remained silent after the trade became official. Defenseman Jake Sanderson was the only Senator to publicly acknowledge the move, sharing an Instagram Story following the announcement.

Elliotte Friedman Reveals Another Detail Behind the Scenes

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that a Senators player reached out to him, saying Brady and Matthew Tkachuk’s podcast had created problems inside the locker room and added to the ongoing distractions.

“One of the players said the only thing he felt that we should have added was the podcast. And he said the podcast caused some problems, and it was just time. It’s better for the Senators just to end the noise,” Friedman said.

Those comments reinforce the belief that the constant speculation surrounding Tkachuk’s future had become a distraction for the team. Rather than allowing the uncertainty to continue, Ottawa ultimately chose to move its captain and begin a new chapter.

With Brady Tkachuk now gone, Tim Stützle’s end-of-season comments have taken on new meaning. As both Alex Adams and Elliotte Friedman suggested, ending the trade speculation gives the Senators a chance to reset the locker room and move forward.
