Trades in the NHL often change more than a lineup spot. They affect daily life, routines, and the feeling of home built over time. For Rasmus Andersson, the move from Calgary to Vegas marked a clear shift. That change was seen not only in him but also in his family.
Rasmus Andersson’s Trade to Vegas Golden Knights Prompts Emotional Goodbye Message From Wife Tessa
Andersson was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday, ending his long run with the Calgary Flames. He is in the final season of a six-year contract worth $27.3 million, on which he was earning an average of $4.55 million per year. Calgary sent him to Vegas for Zach Whitecloud, prospect Abram Wiebe, and conditional draft picks in 2027 and 2028.
The deal came just days after Andersson spoke about his connection to the city. On Jan. 9, he said, “I love playing here, and I’ve always loved playing here, and that’s never going to change.” He also noted that hockey decisions can change fast.
Soon after the trade became official, Andersson’s wife, Tessa, shared several Instagram posts. She reshared a message from the Flames that read, “From the first lap in front of the C of Red to the signature stare downs, thank you, Ras, for the passion you brought every night!” Tessa added her own note, writing, “Thank you for eveything Calgary. This city will always have a very special place in our hearts.”
Tessa also shared a post from the Vegas Golden Knights showing Andersson in his new jersey. One story included their daughter Lucy, born in April 2024, holding an empty wine glass. Tessa added a short caption, writing, “Lucy is ready for Vegas.” The post showed the family starting to look ahead to the next chapter.
She also highlighted friendships made during their time in Calgary. Tessa reshared an Instagram story from Frida Backlund, wife of Flames captain Mikael Backlund, captioned “End of Era.” Tessa replied, “Thanks for making my time in Calgary absolutely amazing!!! My Best friend!!! Crying, love you.”

Andersson shared his own farewell on X. He thanked the team, staff, and fans, writing, “Calgary, thank you for everything you’ve done for me, ever since being drafted in 2015, I’ve loved this organization!! I’ve truly loved every second of playing for this amazing team and city.”
Andersson added that his support for the Flames would not change. “To my teammates, coaches, training staff, and everyone at the front office, THANK YOU! Wishing the Flames nothing but the best in the future, I’ll always be a fan,” he wrote.
Now 29, Andersson joins a Vegas team leading the Pacific Division with a 24-11-12 record. Calgary selected him in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft. This season, he has 10 goals and 20 assists in 48 games. His experience could help Vegas as they prepare to face the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 19.
