Quinn Hughes Sends Clear Message in Response to Jack Hughes’ Long-Held Wish of NHL Team-Up

Quinn Hughes recently sounded off on comments made by his brother Jack on the potential of playing together.

There are still two seasons remaining on the contract of Quinn Hughes, the team captain of the Vancouver Canucks and a former Norris Trophy winner as the NHL’s best defenseman.

But in recent months, especially after the disappointing and completely underwhelming 2024-25 Canucks season that resulted in missing the postseason, there has been rampant speculation surrounding his future with the team.

Helping to fuel the speculation is the fact that Quinn has two brothers, Jack and Luke Hughes, who currently both play for the New Jersey Devils. Multiple brothers have played with one another on the same NHL team throughout NHL history, including the Staal brothers and the Sutter brothers.

What Did Quinn Hughes Say About Speculations Regarding Potential Reunion With Brothers Jack and Luke?

Jack Hughes been completely open about welcoming the chance to play with Quinn at some point in his career.

“Yeah, I’d love to play with Quinn at some point,” he said on Tuesday.

The NHL Player Media Tour is currently being held in Las Vegas, and longtime NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun caught up with Quinn to talk about his future with the Canucks and the potential of at some point suiting up with his brothers on the same team.

I mean, he’s my brother. What’s he supposed to say, first of all? `Like, I don’t want to play with him, you know?’ I mean, we have contracts and whatnot,” Quinn said. “He’s on a different team. Would it be fun to play with those guys at some point? Of course. I think if you guys have brothers, you guys would say the same thing. But we do have contracts.”

Quinn then reiterated that he’s happy where he’s currently playing and also acknowledged the disappointment over failing to defend their Pacific Division title from the previous season.

“I’m excited to be in Vancouver, and I feel like last year was a little bit of failure,” he said. “So I feel like I got things to do there. And I know Jack loves, he loves Jersey, and he’s got stuff to do also.”

Both the Canucks and Devils will be opening Training Camp later this month, followed by pre-season play.

They will face one another twice this season, beginning with a matchup at Prudential Center on the afternoon of December 14, followed by a second matchup at Rogers Arena in Vancouver over a month later on January 23.

Until Quinn signs an extension with the Canucks, the rumors swirling around a potential reunion with brothers Jack and Luke will continue.
