‘Pathetic, Embarrassing’ — Oilers Fans Go Nuclear As Edmonton Gets Smacked By St. Louis Blues

Social media resounded with fans' tough critique of the Edmonton Oilers after the team's latest loss to the St. Louis Blues at the Enterprise Center.

It may be the nascent stages of the season, but all is not well in Edmonton. The Edmonton Oilers suffered a humbling defeat at the hands of the St. Louis Blues, a team currently languishing at the bottom of the Central Division, found a way to overpower the Stanley Cup finalists.

While Connor McDavid hit a personal milestone to join Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mike Bossy in scoring 1,100 points, the team’s collective aspirations seem to have taken a significant hit with the loss, as fans struggle to understand how an elite team like the Oilers could lose to the Blues.

The Edmonton Oilers Face Backlash from Fans After Latest Loss

The season so far has been anything but favorable for the Edmonton team. The men in blue and orange were expected to make a comeback like none other after their second consecutive failure to lift the Stanley Cup; however, the season has been lukewarm at best.

Of course, the Oilers have climbed their way to the fourth position of the Pacific Division with 15 points, but have experienced one too many losses already. After the latest 3-2 defeat on the road against the Blues, fans have come forward to express their staunch disapproval of the Oilers.

The showdown against St. Louis at the Enterprise Center highlighted the Oilers’ significant shortcomings in the blueline, goaltending situation, and overall depth. Calvin Pickard’s abysmal save percentage of .864 was forgettable in comparison to the Blues’ Jordan Binnington’s .923.

“god damn embarrassing. St. louis was 0-5-2 in their last seven games, all it takes for struggling teams is a matchup with the oilers. Pathetic,” posted Oilers Daily on X in the wake of the team’s defeat, not attempting to hide their contempt for the Edmonton lineup.

Another social media user sounded utterly dejected while expressing their harsh opinion about the Oilers. The hockey fan further stated that it will be a while before they recover from the team’s poor showing. “I don’t even care at this point. Two heartbreaking season ending losses with these f***s and they’ve learned absolutely nothing. Jay’s ripping my heart out. I got zero f***s left to give. Need at least 3 months to recover. We’ll see if they have my attention by then.”

Another NHL fan pointed out that the Oilers’ greats did not live up to expectations either. “Mcdavid and Draisaitl a combined 0 shots on goal lol.”

Finally, no critique of Edmonton’s performance is complete without directing attention towards the team’s apparently irredeemable goaltending.”Get f****d Edmonton get a goaltender,” bitterly stated an Oilers fan.

On the other hand, Blues fans finally see the flicker of hope that the team’s comeback may truly be around the corner. Defeating a team of the Oilers’ caliber is bound to imbue St. Louis with enough motivation to last the coming few games.
