Oilers Fans React as Tristan Jarry’s Last-Ditch Effort Goes Horribly Wrong in OT Loss to Nashville

Social media fans have diverse responses to Edmonton Oilers goalie Tristan Jarry's unexpected move during the latest showdown against the Predators.

Connor McDavid extended his point streak to 20 games on his birthday in a career-defining feat. Still, despite all his exploits, the Edmonton Oilers could not save face against the Nashville Predators. The game stretched into overtime, and Nashville had the last laugh, winning the game 4-3 on home ice.

Tristan Jarry went the extra mile, literally, to turn the day to the Oilers’ favor. The netminder’s move has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many even believing that his actions were not entirely wrong.

Tristan Jarry’s Unexpected Move Against the Nashville Predators Has Got the Internet Talking

Jarry returned to the ice after a prolonged break, and far from being a leisurely walk in the park, the game got really intense.

“A turnover in the offensive zone led to lob pass and a possible breakaway, but Jarry raced 20 feet out of his crease to disrupt Roman Josi’s chance. The play could have ended there, but Leon Draisaitl coasted on the back check and Evan Bouchard ignored a trailing Brady Skjei, who picked up the loose puck uncontested and gave Josi a second chance with Jarry still well out of his net,” Robert Tychkowski wrote for the Edmonton Journal.

Jarry’s move elicited significant reactions across social media. With one X user comparing the netminder to former contentious goalie, Stuart Skinner. “Thought they traded Skinner?”

Another stated that Jarry’s move may have led McDavid to question whether the Oilers will even qualify for the playoffs this season. “McDavid just saw this years playoffs flash before his eyes.”

One social media user absolved the goalie of absolute responsibility and instead took a sharp jab at defenseman Evan Bouchard, calling him out for his purported lack of urgency. “Not all on Jarry…watch how lazy Bouchard is coming back. No urgency whatsoever…and that is why Bouchard will never represent Team Canada.”

“Jarry? More like Draistl, the guy is a bum in the defensive end,” commented another, bluntly criticising Leon Draisaitl for his defensive no-show.

Finally, an NHL fan could not help but point out that Connor Ingram has proved himself to be a solid goaltender during his recent appearances for the Oilers. Over the last five games, Ingram has registered a save percentage of .900 or higher on all but one occasion. “Ingram looks way more solid as an overall.”

The Oilers are in a good place in the standings and have been playing remarkably well. Captain McDavid, for instance, is on his way to having arguably the best season of his career so far. When it comes to the Oilers’ long-standing goaltending woes, the team may truly be past them. Moreover, it is only fair to cut Jarry some slack after his prolonged absence.
