Oilers’ Trent Frederic Reveals Why Vegas Golden Knights and EDM Went At Each Other’s Throats

The tension between the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights reached a boiling point on Saturday, following a 5-1 Vegas victory that snapped Edmonton’s five-game winning streak.

While the game itself was a statement win for a Golden Knights team surging under new head coach John Tortorella, the real fireworks happened after the final buzzer when the two Pacific Division rivals refused to leave the ice.

Oilers’ Trent Frederic Breaks Down Fiery Exchange

When asked about the heated exchange that saw both teams essentially at each other’s throats in a massive post-game scrum, Oilers forward Trent Frederic detailed exactly what went down. “Just bickering back and forth. Everyone telling everyone they make too much money. Which is all true.” Frederic said.

The tension reflected the intensity of a matchup between two teams battling for positioning as the regular season winds down.

On the ice, Vegas dictated the pace early and never allowed Edmonton to settle into its usual offensive rhythm.

Brett Howden opened the scoring at 11:43 of the first period, finishing a rebound after a shot from Jack Eichel. Colton Sissons doubled the lead early in the second, redirecting a backdoor pass from Mitch Marner. Jeremy Lauzon made it 3-0 at 8:04 with his first goal in over two years, beating the goaltender short side with a snap shot.

The Oilers got on the board late in the second when Evan Bouchard stole the puck at the blue line and fired a bar-down wrist shot to cut the deficit to 3-1. But Vegas quickly regained control. Mark Stone tipped in a shot from Ivan Barbashev early in the third, and Rasmus Andersson sealed the 5-1 final with a late power-play blast.

“I feel like everyone’s starting to play some of their best hockey,” Frederic said. “You want to be a team that times it well, that goes into the playoffs and everyone is feeling good about the group game and individually as well.”

Despite the defeat, Edmonton is still tied for first place in the Pacific Division, with Vegas just one point behind, leaving the race wide open. The win also gives new Golden Knights head coach John Tortorella a perfect 3-0 start since taking over from Bruce Cassidy.

With just five games left for both sides, the post-game clash felt like a sneak peek at a possible first-round playoff matchup. The chirping may have centered on salaries, but the real stakes and home-ice advantage are separated by a solitary point.
