Oilers News and Rumors: Edmonton Learns Asking Price For $65,000,000 Trade Target Jordan Kyrou

As the Edmonton Oilers go about planning their 2026 offseason, they know that another run putting all the burden on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl alone will not be enough.

After falling short once again, the front office has turned its attention toward adding a proven top-six scorer capable of changing the complexion of the lineup. Several intriguing names have surfaced in trade chatter, but one high-profile winger, Jordan Kyrou, has quickly emerged as a particularly fascinating option.

Oilers Face Massive Hurdle in Pursuit of Jordan Kyrou Trade

Kyrou, who is about to enter the fourth season of his eight-year, $65 million contract with the St. Louis Blues, remains one of the most intriguing names on the NHL trade market. However, acquiring him may require a package that few contenders can comfortably assemble.

The 28-year-old St. Louis Blues forward is reportedly available as the organization evaluates long-term roster changes following a disappointing season.

While Kyrou’s production dipped significantly in 2025-26, his combination of speed, transition play, and offensive upside continues to attract interest from several teams, including Edmonton.

According to NHL insider Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen, the Blues are setting a substantial price for any team hoping to land the winger.

“League executives say that Jordan Kyrou of the St. Louis Blues, who has 178 goals and 200 assists for 378 points in 488 NHL games, is available, but… You’re looking at a high-end player, a top prospect, and a first-round pick,” Garrioch wrote.

This demand creates challenges for interested teams like Edmonton. Although the Oilers have additional salary cap flexibility thanks to the NHL’s increased $104 million cap ceiling, absorbing Kyrou’s $8.125 million annual cap hit remains complicated.

Edmonton is projected to have roughly $16.5 million in available space, meaning adding Kyrou would consume more than half of its offseason flexibility before addressing several other roster needs.

However, the Blues appear focused on securing a package that combines NHL-ready talent, future assets, and organizational depth. Despite these concerns, there are reasons why Edmonton remains interested.

Kyrou’s surface numbers declined sharply last season, finishing with 18 goals and 46 points in 72 games. He also struggled to fit into head coach Jim Montgomery’s defensive structure and was a healthy scratch at one point. These developments fueled speculation that both player and team could benefit from a fresh start.

Yet his underlying metrics tell a different story. St. Louis controlled nearly 59% of expected goals with Kyrou on the ice at 5-on-5, while his skating remains among the league’s elite.

Additionally, Kyrou owns a full no-trade clause, meaning he would need to approve any move before negotiations could progress. Edmonton also faces competition from other interested teams, including Ottawa, Washington, and Montreal.

For now, the Oilers know exactly what it will take to acquire Kyrou. The question is whether Edmonton is willing (or able) to meet a price that the Blues believe reflects his long-term upside rather than the struggles of this season.
