Oilers News and Rumors: More Smoke Rises in Jordan Kyrou to Edmonton Speculation

The pressure is real in Edmonton after the Oilers witnessed a decline instead of checking the Stanley Cup box in the 2025-26 season. This drop has exposed major flaws behind their superstar core.

With Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl squarely in win-now mode, management is obligated to make a bold move that can reignite the team’s Stanley Cup push.

This urgency has already thrown several big names into the NHL rumor mill as Edmonton searches for more speed, scoring, and offensive support. Amid the growing noise, St. Louis Blues winger Jordan Kyrou continues to generate serious buzz around the Oilers’ summer plans.

Jordan Kyrou Rumors Gain Steam as Oilers Explore Top-6 Upgrade

Kyrou has become one of the most heavily discussed names tied to the Oilers following Edmonton’s first-round playoff exit against the Anaheim Ducks. NHL insiders believe the organization is aggressively searching for a fast, offensively gifted winger capable of complementing McDavid at even strength.

Despite a disappointing 2025-26 campaign in St. Louis, Kyrou still carries strong value around the league because of his skating and transition game. The 28-year-old managed only 18 goals and 46 points in 72 games and even spent time as a healthy scratch earlier in the season.

Still, evaluators believe his underlying 5-on-5 numbers suggest there is untapped offense remaining in his game under the right circumstances.

NHL insider David Pagnotta recently fueled the conversation while appearing on Oilers Nation Everyday. Discussing Edmonton’s offseason plans, Pagnotta said, “A first-line winger that can kind of keep up; an experienced guy who’s still in his 20s; wouldn’t shock me if they poke around on Jordan Kyrou.”

This comment added more momentum to an already active rumor cycle surrounding the Blues winger. Edmonton analysts continue pointing toward the Oilers’ lack of secondary scoring behind McDavid and Draisaitl during the playoffs. Team observers also believe the team has not rostered a winger with Kyrou’s level of straight-line speed since Taylor Hall.

However, several obstacles continue to complicate any realistic trade framework between the two teams. Kyrou carries an $8.125 million cap hit through 2031 and owns a full no-trade clause, giving him complete control over any potential destination.

Edmonton also enters the offseason with roughly $16.48 million in cap space while needing to address multiple roster areas, including goaltending and defensive depth.

The asking price from St. Louis further clouds the situation. Reports indicate Blues GM Doug Armstrong wants a massive return involving a top-level prospect, a first-round pick, and further assets. Edmonton already lacks a 2026 first-round selection, while prized prospect Matt Savoie is reportedly considered untouchable internally.

Because of these financial and asset-related hurdles, league insiders have floated larger multi-team scenarios involving Darnell Nurse’s $9.25 million contract to create flexibility.

Others believe Edmonton may eventually pivot toward alternative targets such as Owen Tippett, Pavel Buchnevich, or Jake DeBrusk if the cost for Kyrou becomes too prohibitive.
