‘Oilers Management Should Go To Jail’ — NHL Fans Destroy Edmonton Brass After 9-1 Smackdown Loss

Edmonton Oilers fans erupted on social media after a humiliating 9-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

The Edmonton Oilers hit a new low on Saturday night, suffering one of their worst home defeats in franchise history, a 9-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. The result tied their record for worst home loss, set in January 2009 as they fell 10-2 to the Sabres.

With the loss, the Oilers dropped to a 6-6-4 record and extended their skid to three straight defeats, leaving them in seventh place in the Pacific Division and fans are frustrated.

What Did Fans Have to Say After the Oilers’ 9-1 Meltdown Against the Avalanche?

It’s a shocking start for a team that just months ago stood as Stanley Cup Finalists for two consecutive years, falling both times to the Florida Panthers. Instead of redemption, the Oilers are facing one of the roughest starts to the season.

The lone bright spot came in the second period when Connor McDavid scored the team’s only goal. McDavid recently signed a team-friendly two-year, $25M extension to give Edmonton a better chance at winning the Stanley Cup.

The Avalanche dominated from start to finish, two goals in the first, four in the second, and three more in the third. Goalie Stuart Skinner was pulled after allowing four goals. Calvin Pickard then replaced him and allowed five goals.

Frustrated fans took to social media to vent their anger and disbelief over the team’s collapse.

One fan placed the blame squarely on team management, saying: “The Oilers management should go in jail for giving Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard as goalies in McDavid prime.”

Another echoed a similar sentiment, criticizing both the goaltending and the team’s overall defensive structure. “Team has no effort playing in front of a goalie structure that looks like Skinner Pickard, confidence goes out the window the minute the swiss cheese lets a goal in early. Team will never look good with this tandem anymore, it’s finally reached it’s point IMO.”

A few fans tried to find humor in the disaster. One sarcastically pointed out, “In a game where there weren’t many positives, They kept it under 10, so they have that going for them… which is nice”. While another joked that, “I haven’t seen a beating like that since someone dropped a banana down my buddy’s pants and turned a monkey loose”

Still, not everyone was simply venting. Some took a more hopeful tone, suggesting that such a brutal loss might finally force management to make meaningful changes. As one user put it, “a good blowout can be a catalyst for a shake-up,” implying the team can’t keep waiting for things to fix themselves.

And finally, one fan summed up the overall mood of disappointment, noting that Connor McDavid took a pay cut in his new contract “just to get blown out 9-1 at home on a Saturday night.”

Now, the Oilers will try to regroup and snap their losing streak when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.
