NHL Trade Rumors: Oilers, Senators Could Lock Horns in Pursuit of $65,000,000 Forward

The Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators head into the offseason after disappointing playoff exits exposed different weaknesses across both rosters. Edmonton struggled to generate reliable scoring depth behind its superstar core, while Ottawa once again lacked enough offensive support around its young leadership group during a short postseason run.

As both teams begin evaluating aggressive offseason upgrades, one proven NHL scorer has emerged as a shared target.

Jordan Kyrou Trade Rumors Grow as Oilers and Senators Eye $65 Million Winger

Kyrou continues to draw attention around the league as the Oilers and Senators explore ways to reshape their forward groups this summer.

Kyrou is entering the fourth season of his 8-year, $65 million contract, which carries an annual cap hit of $8.125 million through the 2030-31 season. Despite a quieter 2025-26 campaign that ended with 18 goals and 46 points, league executives still view the 28-year-old winger as one of the NHL’s premier transition players because of his speed and offensive creativity.

According to Ottawa insider Bruce Garrioch, the Senators remain heavily connected to the Blues forward as the Sens search for a major top-six addition. In his recent column for the Ottawa Citizen, Garrioch reported: “League executives say that Jordan Kyrou of the St. Louis Blues, who has 168 goals and 378 points in 488 NHL games, is available, but the Senators would have to pay a high price.”

Garrioch also revealed how significant the asking price would be if Ottawa seriously enters negotiations with St. Louis.

“You’re looking at a high-end player, a top prospect, and a first-round pick,” Garrioch wrote before adding, “The Blues want a king’s ransom for him.”

Ottawa appears better positioned than Edmonton to satisfy those demands. The Senators continue searching for another elite winger to complement Tim Stützle and strengthen a core already built around Brady Tkachuk, Dylan Cozens, and Jake Sanderson.

The Oilers, meanwhile, face a much more complicated financial situation. Edmonton enters the offseason needing to improve its goaltending while also preparing for massive long-term commitments tied to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Adding Kyrou’s contract without removing significant salary would be difficult under the current structure.

Even so, analysts believe Kyrou’s skating ability and offensive pace would fit naturally alongside Edmonton’s top stars. The Oilers continue searching for more secondary scoring after their first-round elimination against the Anaheim Ducks exposed depth concerns throughout the lineup. The Athletic’s Allan Mitchell believes Kyrou would be the perfect fit for a forward group led by two of the world’s best.

Any deal involving Kyrou remains difficult for another major reason. The Blues winger owns a full no-trade clause, giving him complete control over where he plays next. This protection could ultimately decide whether either Canadian team has a realistic path toward completing a blockbuster move this offseason.
