Brady Tkachuk’s future with the Ottawa Senators has emerged as one of the biggest storylines of the 2026 offseason.
The speculation intensified after Ottawa suffered consecutive first-round playoff exits, most recently a four-game sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes, where Tkachuk failed to register a point. As questions continue to swirl around the Senators’ direction, several teams are reportedly monitoring the situation closely and remain interested in whether Tkachuk’s status in Ottawa ever changes.
Senators’ Brady Tkachuk Continues to Attract Trade Interest
Although Brady Tkachuk has repeatedly shut down the speculation and reaffirmed his commitment to Ottawa, the trade rumors are unlikely to go away completely until he signs a long-term contract extension with the Senators, something he won’t be eligible to do until July 1, 2027.
Meanwhile, Steve Staios and the Senators’ front office have shown no signs of wanting to move their captain. However, after eight seasons with limited playoff success, the pressure is building on the organization to show meaningful progress and establish itself as a true contender.
The Athletic’s New York Rangers insider, Vincent Z. Mercogliano, recently noted that while Tkachuk is expected to stay put, teams would immediately line up if that situation were to change.
“I don’t want to belabor a point that we’ve already covered fairly extensively,” Mercogliano wrote. “Especially with all signs pointing to Senators captain Brady Tkachuk remaining with the team entering next season. But as I’ve written, if anything ever changes on that front, expect the Rangers to be involved.”
NYR has quietly admired Tkachuk for years, dating back to the 2018 NHL Draft when the Rangers made their pick after Ottawa took him fourth overall. Following a disappointing season that saw them finish near the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, the Rangers are expected to explore major changes. And Tkachuk is viewed as a potential franchise-altering addition.
Panthers Also Emerging in Brady Tkachuk Rumors
The Rangers are not the only Eastern Conference contender connected to Tkachuk.
The Florida Panthers have also surfaced in recent speculation, fueled in part by comments from former Florida head coach Doug MacLean. “Think about this,” MacLean said. “Everybody’s trying to get in the top 10. Florida has the 9th pick in the draft. Where is Brady Tkachuk gonna wanna go?
“You know Brady wants to go to Florida. You know he’s gonna probably go there within two years. Two years is the magic number. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brady Tkachuk is in Florida.”
Several other teams, including the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, and Utah Mammoth, have also been mentioned in connection with Tkachuk as speculation continues to grow.
Still, a move is complicated as Tkachuk has two years left on his contract and a full no-movement clause, giving him significant control over any potential trade.

Unless Ottawa’s stance changes or Tkachuk decides he wants a new opportunity elsewhere, the Senators captain remains firmly in control of any potential blockbuster move.
