Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson has become one of the hottest names on the trade market. The Flames are near the bottom of the Pacific Division and are coming off a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday, but their playoff hopes remain slim.
With the season slipping away, Calgary appears ready to reshape its roster, and Andersson sits near the top of the list of players drawing serious interest from around the league.

Andersson turned in a strong performance in Saturday’s win. He recorded an assist and finished with a plus-2 rating, earning third-star honors. The moment felt telling, as he appeared emotional while saluting the Calgary crowd, exchanging high-fives and hugs with teammates before leaving the ice, a scene that only fueled speculation about his future. His time in Calgary may be nearing its end.
Speaking on Saturday Headlines, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared an update on where things stand in the Andersson trade talks. Friedman noted that while nothing is imminent, the Flames have reached out to several interested teams and are now looking for best and final offers.
“The team that appears to be in the driver’s seat, although nothing is done until it’s done, is Boston,” Friedman said. “Boston is very serious about its offer, and nobody’s confirming or denying this, but I believe they are the only team that has been given permission to talk to Anderson, and I do believe they’ve done some pretty significant extension talks.”
An extension is seen as a key piece of any deal for Boston, and while talks have reportedly been meaningful, nothing is finalized.
Vegas also remains in the mix, though its current offer is not believed to be as strong as Boston’s. However, there is mutual interest between Rasmus Andersson and the Golden Knights, which could keep them firmly in the conversation. “I don’t think Vegas is worried at all that if they could trade for him or he got to the summer, they would have a great chance to get him,” he said.
Dallas and Toronto have also been linked to Andersson, but appear to have taken a step back for now.

Rasmus Andersson is in the final year of his six-year, $27.3 million contract and is set to become a free agent after the season, with Calgary expected to move key pieces before the February 6 Olympic break. For now, the Flames turn their attention to Monday’s game against the Devils.
