NHL Trade Rumors: Flames’ Nazem Kadri Makes a Decision on Carolina Hurricanes’ Interest

Nazem Kadri’s time in Calgary has been steady, and he has helped strengthen the Flames’ offense. He has become one of the Flames’ most reliable players, known for his experience and competitive edge. As he prepares for his 1,000th NHL game on Wednesday, it’s a proud moment that reflects his long journey through Toronto, Colorado, and now Calgary.

But as Kadri reaches this important mark, trade rumors are beginning to surround him. Several teams are reportedly interested, leading to a big question: could the Carolina Hurricanes be a possible destination?

Is Kadri Considering a Move to Carolina?

NHL insider Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet reported that Calgary Flames general manager Craig Conroy is listening to offers, even with Kadri’s milestone coming up.

“While we know Flames centre Nazem Kadri isn’t going anywhere before his 1,000th career game — which he’ll play on Wednesday night — a league executive did tell me that hasn’t stopped GM Craig Conroy from telling teams he’s open for business,” Kypreos wrote.

Although nothing is close, a few teams have checked in, including the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have been looking for a top player since missing out on Mikko Rantanen and Mitch Marner last season. However, a move to Carolina seems unlikely, as the team is on Kadri’s 13-team no-trade list.

    Kypreos also noted,

“If Conroy gets an offer he can’t refuse, he could very well move Kadri before the trade deadline in March.”

Teams like Vancouver and Montreal are not on Kadri’s list and could be easier trade partners if discussions continue later this season.

Kadri, now 35, is in the fourth year of his seven-year, $49 million contract with Calgary. He has started the season strong with 10 points in 14 games and remains one of the Flames’ top performers. His consistency and leadership have made him a key player in a team that’s still finding its rhythm.

Ahead of his milestone, Kadri shared his appreciation for reaching such a moment.

“To be physically and mentally ready for that many games, it’s an incredible achievement,” he said on Tuesday. “I have so much thankfulness and gratitude at this point that I’ve been able to be put into this position to do what I love to do.”

Kadri, drafted seventh overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2009, has built a strong reputation as a dependable two-way player. He won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022 before signing with Calgary, where he quickly became a leader both on and off the ice.

Wednesday’s game at the Scotiabank Saddledome will be a special one for Kadri and the Flames. While trade rumors will continue, Kadri’s focus remains on contributing to Calgary’s success.
