NHL Trade Rumors: Canucks Changing Their Tune on Bruins’ Trade Target

Canucks revisit their plans amid trade rumors, with internal talks shifting the outlook on a potential move ahead of the NHL deadline.

The Canucks are running out of time to reset their season, and pressure continues to mount around the roster. Results have not matched expectations, forcing management to weigh short-term fixes against longer plans.

As losses pile up, attention has shifted from what Vancouver might sell to what it might try to keep.

Canucks Reconsider Trade Plans Around Bruins-Linked Forward

Vancouver’s 2025–26 season has already seen a move beyond their plans as they had to trade their captain, Quinn Hughes. Now, they sit at 16-20-5 and rank eighth in the Pacific Division. They have struggled to stay consistent, often following strong road games with disappointing home losses. Defensive issues and goals against remain a major problem, putting pressure on the entire lineup.

As the season has moved along, league insiders have continued to circle Vancouver as a team willing to listen. With the Canucks outside the playoff picture, the focus is on players who could either help reshape the roster or bring value back in a deal. That outlook has kept trade speculation active around several names on the roster.

Kiefer Sherwood soon became part of that conversation. In a recent column for The Athletic, Chris Johnston linked Sherwood to the Boston Bruins. Johnston wrote, “Sherwood is a prototypical Bruin: big, fast, and tenacious on the forecheck. As such, he’s viewed as a player who would be a great fit in an organization that is building back up following last year’s reset.”

He also added, “What’s more, the Canucks and Bruins have explored potential trade fits on a variety of players dating to the summer.”

Despite the interest, a deal has not come together. Johnston pointed to the main issue, writing, “The biggest hurdle here might be the asking price. Vancouver is seeking a meaningful return for a player who looks poised to blow past 20 goals for the first time in his career, and Boston isn’t expected to be chasing rentals at this deadline.” That gap has slowed any real progress.

Now, the tone around Sherwood appears to be changing. NHL insider Tyson Cole shared an update on X, writing, “@FriedgeHNIC reporting that the Canucks have made a new offer to keep Kiefer Sherwood. Mentions there’s still a sizeable gap between both sides, but they’ve talked about an extension.” The post suggests Vancouver may be leaning toward keeping him.

Sherwood’s play helps explain that approach. The 30-year-old winger brings speed, consistent pressure, and a direct style. This season, he has 17 goals and four assists in 41 games, making him one of Vancouver’s more reliable even-strength scorers. For a team searching for stability, that production holds real value.
