The Vancouver Canucks are still searching for their game this season. They’ve slipped to second-last in the Pacific Division with a 9-12-2 record and have now dropped six of their last seven games, including Sunday’s 5-2 defeat to the Calgary Flames.
With the team spiraling, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Vancouver has begun making its “veterans” available in an effort to shake up the roster and spark a turnaround. And now, one Canucks winger has officially landed on the trade block.
Which 30-Year-Old Canucks Winger Could Spark a League-Wide Bidding War?
According to NHL insider Irfaan Gaffar, most of Vancouver’s established names are effectively untouchable due to full no-movement clauses.
Jack DeBrusk, Brock Boeser, Connor Garland, Elias Pettersson, Marcus Pettersson, and Tyler Myers all hold NMCs, preventing the team from moving them. Evander Kane also has a 16-team approved list. With so many restrictions, Gaffar says the real bidding war is centered around 30-year-old right winger Kiefer Sherwood.
“DeBrusk, Boeser, Garland, Elias Pettersson, Marcus Pettersson and Myers all with full NMC. Kane has a 16-team approved list, so it’s a bidding war for Kiefer Sherwood,” Gaffar wrote on X.
Sherwood is in the final season of his two-year, $3 million contract. He has yet to sign an extension with the Canucks. He’s been a major bright spot offensively, producing 12 goals and 16 points through 23 games, leading the charge for Vancouver despite the team’s struggles.
Gaffar also noted, “Garland is July 1, 2026. Not sure if he’s the ‘vet’ that’s going to get moved though.” Garland is currently in the last year of his five-year deal, which does not include an NMC. However, his next contract does. A six-year extension starting July 1, 2026, with a $6 million AAV and a full NMC for the first three years before shifting to a 15-team no-trade clause.

This means that if the Canucks want to move Garland, they’ll have to do it before July 1 of next year, before the new contract kicks in. Still, Gaffar isn’t convinced he’s the veteran who gets shipped out.

Adding to the buzz, PuckPedia released its list of the most frequently viewed player pages in the 15 minutes following reports that Vancouver was making veterans available. At the top were Conor Garland and Kiefer Sherwood, showing exactly where fans’ curiosity is focused.
